See I didn't think he was avg his first two seasons...this past yr I give everyone a pass based on a lot of things.

I think having 2 to 3 studs up front along with better secondary play/better scheme is gonna do wonders for him...now if he shows up 300lbs and lazy as f**k then I get it.

We will look at a pass rusher next yr cause you can never have too much...we will see
Giving up on him is not how I'd phrase it. He's obviously getting another shot his only competition at Leo is a 6'7 300 pounder. This d requires speed and he's just the past regime's project. If he can get to 8 sacks I'd keep him as a Brooks Reed but ultimately Saleh is going to need the desired Mack, Beasley difference maker to get the d firing on all cylinders.

I'd even say they need a guy like Yannick Ngakoue in Jacksonville... he's a pure speed rusher who had 8 sacks this yr and was the 2nd ranked rookie pass rusher in pressure behind only bosa.

I wouldn't be surprised if we have someone very comparable to him on the team already in Pita Taumoepenu. Very comparable size and speed (Pita is actually faster). He had 13 sacks in 16 games in college....both struggle vs the run but are pure pass rush specialists.

Good point. I think *any* defense isn't going to be a super bowl caliber defense unless it has that final piece, that elephant/LEO elite pass rushing end. Get that, and you have a defense that can take you to the super bowl. Unfortunately, we don't have that defensive end, and most likely we'll have to trade for it if we want to get a player like that this year. Even Walsh had to trade for Fred Dean to get that first super bowl. Walsh had many talents, but the defensive talent I was most impressed with is how he was able to get elite pass rushers, either through the draft or free agency. Personally, I think it was Harbaugh not Baalke that got Aldon. Everywhere Harbaugh has gone, he's always seems to have quality defensive ends on his roster. The dude knows defensive ends and the defensive line. He coaches like a defensive lineman, in my opinion.

I'm hoping Pita can be the ShanaLynch version of Aldon/Haley. But those guys are rare and very hard to ether trade or draft. If you are a defensive coach and you can consistently develop elite pass rushers, you will have an NFL job for as long as you want. You may not be a very good head coach, but you will always have an NFL job.
Yannick and Pita are fair comparisons but Jax is actually betting on Fowler. Yannick was supposed to be the situational guy who's been forced to do a bit more since Fowler hasn't regained form. Jax ended up finishing 26th in sacks and that's what prevented them from having an impact opposed to just a solid one and it's why they spent big on Calais. We do have more talent than them on the line then they did last year.

Who's their current SAM? They'll probably throw Yannick at SAM, since he's on the smaller side for an edge, when Fowler is ready to come back .

Flower talked about how he is a stand up pass rusher more than a hand in the ground guy.

Yannick was the Leo and they used Fowler as a situational rusher since he's still recovering from the acl. At Sam which they called Otto they used Dan Skuta last year. Since Bradley is gone, Coughlin is in they might run more traditional 4-3 looks because they have a really good lb core with Jack, Poz, Smith. It's shame to misuse that.

Talking about Yannick, Pita or Fowler? Because I agree with you Yannick and Pita are very similiar and can be used the same way. I see us using Lynch as a tradional end with his hand in the dirt, and Pita would do the more exotic looks. As of now it's a committee approach but I'd love to get the Beasley who can do it all.

Yup agree...we got the picks to make it happen as well ( I think we got 1st, 2 seconds, and 2 3rds).

Now if Lunch gets down in a 3 point stance, will he be able to get back up?
