I must admit though, Ward was doing an exceptional job at FS. Dude was actually laying the wood. But those injuries...just to risky.

You may want to brace yourself. Lynch seems to like Jimmie Ward. It's looking like he'll be around for at least next season.

Need to renegotiate his contract because it would suck if we bring him back and he plays well, then scores a big contract only to be perpetually injured again for the next 3 years.
Sucks that Lynch thinks injuries early in a career are normal due to adjusting to the pro game.

It'll probably be a moot point anyhow. I have zero confidence that Ward will make it through the whole season healthy.

the few games, if that, where he was healthy this year, I did enjoy his aggressive style of play. He just can't be counted on though. time to move on.

Lol good lord cc. Ward isn't a bad player. Dudes been jerked around like crazy since being here. He's just unreliable from a health perspective. Even if the team still believes he can be pro bowl level talent at the free safety position, it's ok because now we know there's a hungry and younger Colbert waiting to take his spot.

i am weary of us always hoping a player stays healthy,,, if i had a dime for every time we said,,,,, well he is good IF he stays healthy. i think it was foolish of lynch to think of ward as a cornerstone for the defense this year. and yes i think its time to cut ties with him cuz he is never healthy, how long of a rope do we give players?

What sucks is that it is still up in the air as to which position he will play due to Colbert ascending. If Ward knew he was playing FS, then maybe he could bulk up a little for the impacts required at that position. But he won't know and will not be able prepare his body specified for whichever position. With K'Waun excelling at Slot CB, I think Ward is out.
But these are all good problems to have.

I think the Ward project should be put to rest. He has only ever been a project since he has gotten here. He maybe a decent or even good player.
But he doesn't have a natural NFL position. Not quick enough to play nickel, not big or fast enough to play outside and not tough or durable enough to play Safety.
Colbert is the obvious future playing single high. Plus he hits like a truck, closes like a cheetah and plays injured like a tough guy!!!

I would prefer to move on from Ward and see if Colbert can continue to develop into a long term answer.
Ward was unfortunately behind the eight ball this year after missing so much time before the season started. I am guessing Lynch and the team feel with a whole off-season of work he can still develop into a nice safety. They like him. Hopefully their right in what they see.
