I'm betting we use Lloyd as a deep threat in the Cowboys game.
Their secondary will be tested often.
Unless Roman pulls a Roman.

throw in ellington in there too, so the safeties will stay back and the corners will give them
a big cushion. With davis, lloyd and ellingtons speed, that will be a lot to handle.

Agree and once Kap starts connecting the 8-10 men in the box will cease and then we counter w/our run game.

I honestly don't get why people are so hostile against Lloyd.
is it the old memories of the ball duck, big mouth and inability to block or play ST? sometimes people need a fresh start and get more mature as they get older.
yeah, he's old. so what ? the 49ers havent properly developed a non-top 15 overall WR pick since TO and they have a team that can contend for the superbowl right now.
Lloyd gives the Niners a true deep threat. he is not burner fast, but hes quick and agile enough to get behind corners on go routes and separate. something that no one on the team besides VD could do on consistent basis in recent years. I'm confident he will be playing the role Moss was playing in 2012 at least with as good results.
he also provides very good hands and acrobatic catching ability on passes that arent well thrown (as we all know, kaep has thrown a good amount of those last year, and a lot have been salvaged by Boldin)
and he appears to have chemistry with Kaep, coaching staff and Boldin (who I think is basically an assistant coach at this point ). He's a proven receiver who did well on the Rams and then Pats in his last two years in the league.
he won't see many snaps because Niners will still be a run-first team, but when he would he would draw attention and provides the Niners with another option down the field.
I don't see what not to like here.

Lets see how game 1 pans out, then I may agree with you.
I dont think Johnson or Lloyd will have much of a role week one. We'll probably run a lot against Dallas. I'm thinking we'll see them a lot more against teams with great secondaries. Arizona, Seattle, Denver, New Orleans, New York etc. Probably kicking in more around week 3. I'd personally like us to pass a lot more right out of the gates against Dallas to get a "flow" going early, that way, when we play Arizona our guys are comfortable with what needs to be done (namely Kaepernick spreading the ball around). He isn't use to it. Didn't really have the receivers last season and was in the read-option the year before. Maybe they'll do the opposite of what I'm thinking...run against the teams with better secondaries and pass against teams with weaker secondaries. I'm of the opinion we'll beat teams by attacking them at their strong point right when the game starts. Like the Colts did with Seattle. In either event, with the better secondaries, the more receivers we have on field the more of a chance we have to marginalize their strong point because not every one of their defensive players will be top notch and we do have a top notch WR corps. Someone will get open if we flood the field with Boldin, Crabtree, Lloyd, Johnson and Davis. Kap just has to find him.

Patton was targeted seven times total last year (the entire season -- playoffs and regular season). He really does not have a great deal of in-game experience. I think expectations for Patton/Ellington as receivers should be very low (expectations for this season I mean; they both have nice long-term upside). Both have limited/zero experience. That's often par for the course for young receivers, often they don't provide meaningful production their first year or two.
Who isn't going to dress so that Lloyd can?
Now, note that I do think Ellington will provide value as a returner, and will be maybe used for a couple gadget plays, but I bet he doesn't contribute much as a receiver. Patton will only dress if/when someone goes down with an injury.
Unconvinced about Lloyd and would prefer to see both Patton and Ellington out there. Otherwise you could be saying exactly the same thing next year.

I think Kap needs vets who can get open in the NFL.

The circus catch by Lloyd was just straight up sick. That's gotta be one of the best damn catches in the last maybe 10 years.

It was like the bad ole days today. Alex Smith, a bunch of field goals and a sick catch from Lloyd. At least we got the win though.
