BTW, 80% of Giants fans are pissed because they legitimately thought they would beat Tampa and win the super bowl that year. Man, the hubris of that fanbase.
That's what I never understand about Giants fans who liken a controversial call in an NFC Championship game to that Wild Card game. They were going to get waxed by Tampa the next week either way.
Same with Packer fans who consider Rice's fumble to be the play that robbed them of a third trip to the Super Bowl. Was Favre going to cover Randy Moss? Assuming they got past Atlanta.
Obviously getting screwed by a bad call is a horrible way to lose, but a bad call in a Wild Card game doesn't carry the same weight as one in Championship game, imo.
well obviously as the rounds get deeper you feel more screwed because you're close to the end prize. but ultimately you'll see most fans feel they were robbed of a super win even if they dont make it to the big game itself. you have niner fans saying without hearsts broken ankle we'd win another one. i'm not sure we had the secondary either to hold up to that vikings team. theres definite flaws in the logic, but every fan base does it. maybe not you personally, but in the same fan base you cheer for people do it.
