Well to tell you the truth NC, I haven't watched a lot of Cook in the NFL, but I've seen him in college a couple times and it was two totally different players IMO. It didn't take long for me to like the Cook signing though after hearing about him in his first week in training camp. This dude seems to have been humbled and what is looks to be a changed person and player, I think what also made me mad about this signing though was that I wanted Walter Thurmond more. Oh well it looks like Baalke, Harbaugh and Donatell knew what was best after all, big respect to them for not chasing players and sticking to what they believe in.

Very much agree! I think many were upset and wanted Thurmond so Cook got the brunt of it...plsu ppl were freaking out b/c we let Whitner walk for more $ to the Brown stains and Rogers and Brown to the Haters. So it was panic mode for many and then they see we sign Cook? Really, that's our solution? LOL

You can't say it's just Preseason when he's facing live fire and one-on-one situations. He's also shown good ball skills and better awareness which tells me that he's buying in to what coach Donatell is selling.

You can when you look at who threw the INTs.

i was wrong about
giving erickson a second year with his hand picked coaches
proclaiming we will sign david boston and we will explode
alex will never lose his job to ck in the middle of the season
we will never make the playoffs during the year we went to the super bowl
eric wright will be a great corner
jon baldwin will be a great wide out for us
marlon moore will be a great wide out for us
we will rue the day we traded a linebacker at this time last year whose name i no longer remember for a 7th round draft pick
the team will cut james and keep either alfonso smith or winston

now try to beat that track record

But you were right about Eric Wright CC.

Well, one of them!
When we signed him I just thought it was another baalke like signing. He knows db's. Not surprised he made the team just hope he actually contributes a lot. Imagine if he and ward live up to potential.
So we can't give Cook props because "it's just preseason"? Is the same applied to our rookies and redshirts that have performed well too? I'm aware of his time in Minnesota and keep that in mind but also consider that by many accounts, he's been working hard and has shown remarkable progress all summer in camp. It has translated to a strong showing in preseason and hopefully regular season. He's now in a system that better suits his strengths (IMO) and, as a result, he's probably more confident as well. Obviously the real test is regular season but I will give Cook his props for stepping up and earning his spot thus far. He deserves it.

I get that logic. By the same token, every CB that played against Gabbert this preseason was a shutdown corner. But, Cook can't control who's throwing him the ball. He can just make a play on it when the opportunity presents itself, and he did it enough this preseason (and in TC, I guess) to earn a spot. For that, we should give him credit for stepping up and possibly turning his career around.

I wonder where he is on the depth chart? I would think that Cox is above him, but that he's above DJohnson solely based off his experience.

I thought Cook played exclusively at RCB in the preseason?

Yes, though on our unofficial Week 1 depth chart we list Cook behind Brock at LCB.

Yeah, that preliminary roster is jacked up. I had:

RCB: Tramaine Brock; Dontae Johnson (Keith Reaser)
LCB: Chris Culliver; Chris Cook (Kenneth Acker)
SLOT/NICKLE: Jimmie Ward; Perrish Cox
