When I read that guy's posts, I still can't help but always wonder if he's kidding or if it's some sort of performance art he's going for.
who knows whether he believes it or not, but his schtick is clear, anything that the majority of us are in favour of, he is against. anything most of us are against he is all for.

I'm down with extending Vernon. He retires a Niner and we get more immediate cap room. win/win

Gotta get Gore to take a major trim from $6.5 to 2.5.

The 49ers’ cap situation should not be a deterrent toward getting veteran deals done with a wide receiver and cornerback. The team has the option of approaching any number of veteran players for contract conversions to replace base salaries with signing bonuses to create immediate cap room.
Because the 49ers released cornerback Carlos Rogers with a post-June 1 designation, they will carry his entire $8.094 million cap figure until that time. Only then, will the team realize its $6.6 million cap savings on Rogers’ contract.

Pretty much every team is 20 minutes away from getting whatever cap room they need to do a new deal.

I can't see anything happening with Gore. We're not going to ask him to take a pay cut and we're not going to extend his contract to lower his cap hit.

Not really worried about this. We don't really sign big name players, will spend some more money but it's not going to be a revis type of deal or player. Will be able to sign are rookies with the money we get on june first from rogers so no worries 6 million is more than enough to get them locked up.
But we could extend Vd Get some cap relief on the front end. Gore maybe but dude is worth 10x what he gets paid now. Also could extend Glen D...
Really have to decide who's the running back group for next season, Hunter and Gore both are free agents, LMJ has his contract up a year after, and Lat is well still a ?

We missed the boat by not sending LMJ to Philly before the Sproles move.
We don't use the guy and frankly every time he field a punt, he scares me w/ a potential fumble.
We could have gotten a 6th rounder.

Naw gore and hunter could both be lost after this season do to expired contracts, Lat with Lmj as his change of pace would be pretty freaking good.

Restructure Gore and sign him for 2 more years. Make sure he retires a Niner.. idk maybe im old school, but I like when players start and end their careers with one team.

That would contradict what Baalke said about LMJ being a big part of the future

I think far too many are misunderstanding how we can lower the cap hit on Gore. (Or I am.)
But I thought you can only restructure a guy in final year, by extending, and spreading the cost over multiple years. Maybe Baalke, etc, look at Gore as having one last year - the first in new stadium and one last chance at Superbowl for Gore, with no hit at all on future years.
We don't have that many slots on team where someone can come in and be an obvious starter - the starting O is set in stone, barring confirmation of Kilgore at Center. And the D is much the same, barring who will step in for Bowman at start of season. (I know DBs require some confirmation.)
The most obvious vacancies on either side of the ball are the 3rd CB, or a WR to stretch the field - but neither position is a full time starter. We also still have a large number of draft picks, but the most likely line up changes are likely to be from players already on roster. (Carradine, Lattimore, etc.)
To answer question of the OP - we can create space, but I am not convinced there is any great desire to do so. The bigger cap questions come next year when we have to look at what to do with Smith, Kap, Crabtree, Iupati, etc.

I love all the talk about gutting our special teams to create cap space for some overpaid FA. Some people on this board need to learn a little about real football. This isn't fantasy football people. I have read through some posts and literally seen every member of, what is a pretty good ST that we used to not have, been thrown out there as getting cut for cap space.

I don't know about some of you but I think that trying to restructure Gore's contract just has too much potential to backfire for it to be a worthwhile. He is, I think, the 10th highest paid RB in football, and there aren't too many guys paid less than him that I would rather have who aren't on a rookie deal. The niners are right around average in how much money they are paying towards the group of RB's on the roster but were 3rd in both attempts and yards rushing last season. This is good value and is a reason the niners are a good team.
