If the O is struggling it is likely to be down to the line and I am unconvinced Gabbert will handle it any better.

I'd rather Gabbert get injured from being sacked 50 times than Kap.

With the line that they have, I think Gabbert is actually the better QB for this team right now. He can get rid of it in hurry with decent accuracy. He's Alex Smith-lite.
Get Kap a better line which can actually buy him 3-4 secs to throw, and obviously that changes.

Reminds me of Shaun Hill. Ultimate check downs.

And if this type of anemic play continues, expect Kap to be benched or injured at some point. So Gabbert getting in as a starter is almost just a matter of time.
Fix the line, while there is still time.

Gabbert looks great. Great insurance that lets Kap run wild.

He's growing into a quality back-up.
NEVER could throw deep very well.

This! Not only that but Gabbert seems to have a much better pocket presence. He seems to know the offense too and read the field unlike kap.

Agree.
IMO, if he had to take over, we should use multiple TE sets for shorter crossing routes.
Thoughts??

I guess we will get to see either more of Gabbert or Thompson vs. San Diego, personally I'd rather see more of Gabbert. I've never seen a QB with such a bad case of happy feet than Thompson, maybe Jeff Garcia but not as bad as Thompson. Gabbert has calmed down a lot and looks like a much better QB. Sure Gabbert may not take that deep route yet, but I don't believe his confidence is not quite there yet in this offense.
