Annual overreaction and associated "we need a top free agent DB" argument. I'll add another point to your argument and mention many are forgetting how freakin' good our front 7 is. Aldon Smith and company get to the QB in a hurry and plug the run up and that helps the DB's tremendously. If I'm not mistaken, the strength of our front 7 means we can (more frequently than other teams) play with one more db on the field.

I'd much prefer a S who is a ballhawk than a hard hitter. Hell, as long as he can tackle well that'll work just fine.

Concerned? No. Excited? Yes. This may finally be our opportunity to develop an elite secondary. Our secondary has always been a little suspect and slow. We'll need to find a gem or two in the draft.

I have no problem letting Whitner leave if Cleveland is offering 8 million a year. What I can't understand is Gore still making 6.45 million. He simply isn't a 6.45 million dollar running back anymore. He needed to be asked to take a pay cut or be released. I'm fine with Lattimore,Hunter,James and a drafted RB like Mason,Carey or Hill. We need the 3 to 4 million saved on Gore's new contract to either keep a player like Whitner or upgrade the position. I'm just not that excited about Mike Mitchell.

You don't pay Whitner 8 mil a year under any circumstance. Not even if we had 30-40 million in cap space.
