I read somewhere this week that the comp pick for Goldson was going to be a 4th rounder. I know nothing official has come out but has anyone heard anything? I thought that pick was going to be a 3rd rounder.

I would expect a 3rd. He signed a big deal and played in 13 games. We didn't make any big signings that would offset his departure. I would expect comp picks for RJF and Walker as well.

Dorsey and Dawson offset RJF and Walker.

No not really. Comp picks formula figures heavily the contracts signed and the deals to Dorsey and Dawson were far less than what RJF and Walker received if memory serves.

It's based on a formula. I believe contract length and amount, playing time, how well they play as well as how many FA's you lost and gained all go into it. We thought a 3rd rounder but looking like it will be a 4th. Too bad because with what RJF, Sopoaga, Walker, Goldson got honestly to me you can't compare that with Dawson, Dorsey, Skuta, etc received. On top of those guys Ginn also played solid but didn't get much. Maybe we get a 4th and a late round pick. Either way those guys all got overpaid (minus Ginn) and we get what we get; it's just gravy with all our picks.

It's going to end up being a 4th. Never really thought a 3rd would happen.

I think it will be a 4th, would have been a 3rd had Goldson played all 16 games likely but those suspensions cost him.

I don't know if how much he played is really a factor when they assign the comp picks.

Looks like you're right. Pretty good article on the subject from Niners Nation:

We're projected to get a 4th for the loss of Goldson. We won't get any comp picks for the other losses, since our own signings cancel them out.

With the Hall of fame committee, NFL Officiating and Announcers that clearly root against the Niners; is anyone surprised that we would get screwed over by the mysterious comp-pick formula?
