Crazy article, I assume it is correct. Young had the best agent ever, Tarell Brown should see if he is available!

Without clicking the link I'm pretty sure that is because of the annuity he chose to receive from the USFL to help them out financially. Sure payed out for him because they went bankrupt pretty quick and likely wouldn't have received all of his contract had he not done that.

Since they are quoting "CelebrityNetworth"... I'm not putting to much credibility in what they wrote. Plus i think that USFL stuff got figured out a long time ago.

"After his bonus, Steve would earn just $200,000 in year one, $280,000 in year two, $330,000 in year four and $400,000 in year five. The remaining $30 million would be deferred over 37 years starting when Steve turned 28 and ending when he was 65 in the year 2027.
"Just to be safe, Steve's agent [Leigh Steinberg] insisted that the contract be insured just like any other annuity that you would purchase from a bank. That meant Steve's deferred $30 million was covered "in case the team or the league folds". This final deal point would prove very wise."

That fits in with an article I read about Young once after he was well established with the Niners. Reporter is at Young's house, and said SY pretty much a slob, never combs his hair, place was pmessy with a bunch of papers laying around, including a number of uncashed USFL checks that had a bunch of zero's on them.

Very temporary. Wilson and Kaep won't be playing on rookie contracts for long.

There was a variation on that story back in the early 90s. It said that while Steve was backing up Joe, he felt so bad, that he would stick his game checks in the dresser drawer and wouldn't cash them. He felt like he wasn't doing anything to earn the money.

Another reason to love Steve and Steinberg.

All things must pass.
Those guys will be rolling in the bucks very soon and be set up for the rest of their lives.
They both seem WAYYYYY too smart to blow it like so many other NFL guys have.

It's fair enough. Steve was a great qb.
