I hope this is not for too much money. Don't break the cap for an old, slow player.

You need to stop. You say the same thing in every post.

SD, he's always been slow...it has never seemed to matter before. He fights for the ball more than 99% of WRs. Since speed isn't his game, he'll be viable for a few more years on nearly the same level as he is now. He also provides a great example to our other WRs with his work ethic.
He's worth the money as long as we don't kill the cap with him. I don't think we'll have to do so.

This is not the same. They are talking about a deal going through in the news. I would not allocate huge cap space to a going to be 34 year old player who runs a 4.7. For a reasonable cap # maybe. But we need to get younger and faster. We also got Crabtree, Iupati, Whitner, Kaep. A lot of guys to resign. How much do you want to allocate to Boldin with very little cap room?

I can't believe I'm getting involved in this, but you have guys restructure their deals. And I think most of us believe either Crabtree, Iupati, or Whitner are gone. I'd probably say definitely on Iupati and Whitner is possible. I think we will make a strong pitch to retain Crabtree. This idea of bringing up his speed is a non issue. That was never his game. Because it has never been his game and because of his style, I can see him continuing to be a good receiver for a few more seasons. I'm thinking it will be a 3 year deal where in year 3 at least one of our young receivers (Patton, any of our 2014 rookies, or even the underdog Jon Baldwin) should be able to leapfrog him in the starting lineup.

you nailed it. if you listen to SDHawk's posts on boldin speed you get the impression that he was a guy who used to rely on speed but no longer has that. truth is he is a wr who never relied on it.

He did well for us last year and there is no denying his talent. I'm just saying I wouldn't kill the cap for a soon to be 34 year old player who is known to be slow. $6 million a year like he was at? No way. Less and not too much guaranteed I think it can work. We have so many guys to sign. A lot will be gone IMO. Personally I would rather allocate this money to Iupati or Crabtree as they are both a lot younger. It doesn't make sense to break the cap for the older player while letting the younger ones leave in FA.

I would say Iupati is better long term but he certainly is not cheaper and we perhaps cannot afford him. The Iupati hate on this board is rediculous. He is respected and thought of as perhaps the best Guard in the league when healthy. A true bulldozer in the run game. Athletic and can move too. I would still make some attempt to sign him. Yeah it may turn out we can't afford him. But at least try.

i think its due to the fact when he got hurt this year there wasn't much of a drop off when snyder was in. plus much more pressing needs locking up crabs, kaep, aldon.

hes good in the run game and a liability quite often in pass pro. iupati is the 2nd best guard on his own team. i like him but boone is better, with more versatility. guard is very much a plug and play position. the seahawks who you love use nobodies there.

Their O Line is not as good as ours. That's one place we are better for sure. Iupati is absolutely better than Boone. Although Boone has played pretty well. When healthy Iupati has been a beast. Keep in mind he hasn't been fully healthy all the time.

We're talking two years max . . . no two year deal will kill the cap. The deals Baalke and Paraag work out on extensions for the long term guys will likely be cap friendly up front anyway. I'm guessing Boldin's deal will be close to what he was making . . . though I do kinda hope it's only a one year deal.
