**Update*** 49ers sign Seneca Wallace

Daniels performed extremely well in his preseason debut last week and is now in the conversation for the No. 2 quarterback job behind Kaepernick. If Daniels continues to impress in the final two exhibition games, he could actually start the season as the 49ers' primary backup. The South Florida product has the measurements and skill set to fit what San Francisco has built on offense with Kaepernick at the helm.

That being said, the 49ers are relying on Kaepernick to be that difference maker on offense. Replacing him with any of these four options (should Wallace be added to the mix) for an extended period of time will surely limit their ability to repeat as NFC Champions in 2013.

Much like every Super Bowl contender, if San Francisco loses its starting quarterback for an extended period of time, its championship aspirations will take a major hit.

Maybe Harbaugh thinks he's got a Russell Wilson clone in BJ Daniels. Midget qb is the new trend in the NFL

This could just be karma for the webzone after all those midget jokes regarding Wilson...lol. now we have 2 of them, and Kaep might start shrinking as the season goes on.

Better start loving me some midget qb. To be serious BJ does look a lot like Wilson the way he play the game. How else is he going to play at 5'11

BJ will be very useful as the scout team QB during the weeks we play Seattle!

That statement you quoted was written by the author of the article I quoted.

But, I do think Daniels makes the roster.

Harbaugh did not pick Nate Davis.
Kap,Cam,RGIII,Wilson and now EJ Manuel and Geno Smith. It seems to me that most of the new dynamic athletic and projected to be great qb's are African American. Now with teams going to a pistol or read option, does the need for a speedy and quick qb behind the center makes it more likely?Read more at http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/nfl/174291-caucasian-going-way-counterparts-endangered-species/#tCQrr3SEDiqb7LLt.99
So Wallace may have been signed b/c of an injury to Tolzien?

Eric Crouch was ahead of his time...he would've flourished in this league....ok just kidding dude was too fragile. But athletic as f**k.

I don't think its black QBs but more so, these Black Qb can actually pass the ball (not counting Geno) and in comparison to white QBs who can run, well Tebow is the first that comes to people's mind...but Ryan Tannehill from the Dolphins is just as fast as some of these guys. And Jake Locker and Chris Ponder are fast as well....teams can run the pistol if they want to, but it does not matter if these QBs can't pass the ball well.

I think some need to forget looking for the next quick and fast white QB, when some should pay attention to the backup QB in Denver that is 6'8 with a strong arm and out runs defenders.

Possibly. It seems like they still expect Tolzien to play against the Vikings, so it can't be too serious. I'm still convinced signing Wallace was a clear message to McCoy. Get your act together or we have another veteran alternative.
