"We could have had..." Who cares?
Every team can play that game for almost every pick. s**t happens.
We are an elite team with elite depth and elite results. Largely due to Baalke. Move on.

baalke's days are probably numbered if Harbaugh wants more power over the roster in his next contract.

what's issue w/ him? he's been ON POINT and is tapped into the new harbaugh regime more than any reporter, maiocco was tapped in to the previous regime but tim's been the guy on this regime.

I have never liked the idea of coaches being more than coaches. Harbaugh might have had a good bead on things for a year or two after he left the college ranks, but leave it to Baalke and do your job.

this guy always hates on the 9ers ever since Bayless left SJMN, Kawakami wants to follow suit with the hater approach.
Why would he report this now...why? because he trying to throw a wrench in the 9ers system right before playoffs

Tim Kawakami is more interested in writing highschool gossip pieces than actual sports news.
I'd take anything this jagmo says with a big grain of salt.

u guys are nuts...what hate? he's called them superbowl contenders for the last 2yrs
this is a play by harbaugh's people to maximize their leverage b4 negotiations this off-season
he's just reporting what is leaked to him, the leaker has an agenda not tim
this regime has been rift free leak free for 3yrs.....the opposite of the dingleberry days
there's clear motivation here behind the leaks...harbaugh's camp trying to gain leverage for up coming negotiations

I feel that too.
Baalke is decent, but not great, not Oz, Most of the stars currently on the roster were acquired before Baalke was put in charge - crab, vdavis, gore, jsmith, raymc, willis, bowman, brooks. Asmith and reid are exceptions.
Baalke is good at accumulating draft picks and at managing cap and contracts (Marathe helps). But, not sure about his player acquisition skills that fit the coaching scheme.
I didn't like him extending Adavis, he is not good in pass protection against superior talent. He has made some mistakes in terms of missing out on players or picking wrong player for extension, etc.

The spectacular failure of the 2012 draft will continue to fuel this fire for a long time.
I don't think there will be any agreement on a new contract for Harbaugh until after the playoffs. This franchise, and this team, is about winning, not just playing in, Super Bowls. If we win this year, Harbaugh may get more power and more money. If not, we may see where the power really lies. A good bit of it will depend on how Kaepernick plays. He needs to play well since he is Harbaugh's handpicked guy.

I'm a fan of Vance, but a 7th rd rookie could have probably filled the exact same role. When you draft a pass-catching TE in the 2nd round, you expect production in the passing game. If all we wanted was a blocking TE, we could have drafted the next Nate Byham or Bear Pascoe.
Could have had Zach Ertz. He now has 32 catches, 4 TDs and averages 12.5 yds/catch.
Another example of where Baalke and Harbaugh appear to not be in synch. Why move up to draft a blocking TE?
If you take Ertz You don't get Tank Carradine or a 3rd round pick from the Titans. Tank hasn't played yet so its easy to say it was a bad move right now. Lets give the guy a shot to play before we decide which was better.
As for Ertz vs McDonald, Ertz was a far ore polished prospect coming out of Stanford with insanely SHORT arms. Harbaugh new all he needed to know about Ertz. McDonald was a more raw prospect with FAR, FAR better athletic ablity and LONG arms.
How many Stanford players have the 49ers drafted? Why do you think its so few? Those players benefit from superior coaching in college that makes them NFL ready players. The 49ers select players with a higher upside with the hopes that their coaching will make those players much better.
McDonald is going to be a very good player. He WILL NOT just be a blocking TE. He had one of the fastest 40 times at the combine (among TEs), had the longest arms at the position while simultaneously being one of the strongest on the bench among that group. The problem is only that he played more like a WR in college and he's raw.
