Heh, guess I shouldn't be surprised Florio is fanning the flames as usual and using this MM interview to blow up the issue even more:

Have to admit, it was a little underhanded of the Niners (Paraag), to not alert TB to his workout clause. Smells a lot, actually. That said, the Niners kind of have him by the nads. He probably needs to show his stuff this year to maximize a nice free agency pay day. At the same time, he can't afford to get hurt. He probably can still get a huge pay day anyway, if he sits out. What's your thoughts?

If he sits out, doesn't he lose a season accrued towards free agency? Aside from this he will be a year removed from playing football and teams won't have 2013 film from which to evaluate him. This situation is of his and his agent's own doing. It was their job to make sure T Brown did what he needed to do to get paid just like any of us on our jobs. Yes, it would have been nice of the 49ers to tell him that he needed to be in the offseason program to get paid but they didn't and they weren't bound by contract. T Brown chose to selfishly work out on his own so that he could put out good film to ensure himself of top dollar this upcoming free agency period and believe me I have no problem with that the way NFL players get shafted contractually. Fact is he cost himself $2 million in salary this year in doing so. Now he should be in shape to do what he originally wanted to do anyway but he just paid $2 million to do it. T Brown if he hits free agency is going to go to the highest bidder with no loyalty to the 49ers just like Goldson did and I don't blame him but do we expect the 49ers to do the players any favors in this business relationship? i hope he plays well and gets his money somewhere is all I can say. Good luck!!

It's not uncommon for vets who take pride in their work, to work out on their own. Usually these clauses are aimed at unproven players, rookies and overweight prone players. Not established high quality players. I am not saying that it would not have been nice to have him along with proven stars like Justin Smith, Patrick Willis, etc. I just don't like the FO looking petty. I think they blew it by not taking the high road. I am sure they knew when he decided to train on his own.

When you cover more people with preexisting conditions and you are a for profit corporation that sole purpose is to raise the value of your stock you find ways to increase revenue and/or cut cost and one way to do it is to raise premiums. When these corporations are left unchecked for example with no government option for consumers the predictable happens, premiums go up. Companies want to make money and they want to improve the value of their stock quote. Not sure how this relates to T Brown though

good man....
"No, I haven't moved on," Brown said Tuesday. "Nothing has happened. They've been working, going back and forth and just seeing what we can do. ... I'm not going to be a distraction to the team at all. That's not my personality first of all, and secondly, the most important thing is us going out there and being prepared and getting ready to play football. I'll let upstairs and my agent handle the rest of that stuff. Take it day by day."

Good for Brown
I wonder if they'll just straight up give it back to him under a new deal, or just give him a chance to make that money back based on incentives.

I don't think the Niners would work it so he would get all of the 2 mil back this year. If they do, it would be very generous of the organization. I think he gets the majority of that 2 mil back this year, with a longer term contract and incentives.
They might include another workout bonus Underlined and highlighted by the new agent I would think

I hope this comes out as a long term deal. But affordable one. Might have to write an article on this on NCH, compare contracts recently signed.

Didn't want to make a new thread, but here's my view on Brown and contract status.
http://ninercaphell.com/2013/08/20/tarell-browns-agent-in-talks-with-49ers-what-can-we-expect-contract-wise/
With recent news that the agent of 49ers starting CB Tarell Brown, is talking with the 49ers over the $2 million de-escalator, that Brown lost for not attending the workout program.
With this news, lets take a look at what Brown may want, money wise.
I want to start with current 49ers other starting CB Carlos Rogers. He signed a 4-year contract worth around $29 million, it included a $5 million signing bonus, which seemed like a great deal.
But in fact it may be the worst contract the 49ers have right now. As he restructured his deal back in November 2012, in order to get NaVorro Bowman extended. That restructure came along with another $900,000 signing bonus, along with a $78,124 in a OATSB, which is known as Other Amount Treated as Signing Bonus. Basically same as a signing bonus, just a more complex name.
This may be the best route for Brown to stay in the bay area. But if he is looking for a real big pay day, then I can see a team, desperate that is, signing Brown for a similar deal that Eric Wright got back in 2012. He received a $38.5 million deal from Tampa Bay, on a 5-year deal. But because he restructured his deal earlier in the offseason, for $1.5 million, after voiding around $7.5 million in guarantees, due to a suspension, and league violation.
Now I doubt he will get this much from the 49ers, but if a team wants him bad enough, check Cortland Finnegan, and Brandon Carr got. Below are terms for both Finnegan and Carr.
Finnegan received a 5-year deal, worth $50 million, and his contained $17 million guaranteed completely. He got a $5 million signing bonus, along with his 2012, and 2013 base salaries were guaranteed. His 2012 base salary was $5 million, and 2013 is a guaranteed $9 million. Finnegan also has a 2013 $5 million roster bonus, and a 2014 $3 million roster bonus.
Carr received a 5-year deal, worth $50.1 million, including a $10 million signing bonus, plus guarantees of his 2012, and 2013 base salaries. He later restructures his deal, and got a $13.5 million bonus as part of his contract, some sorta clause. He also has a voidable 2017 year. His 2012 base salary was $2.1 million, but when he restructured he got a lowered $715,000 base salary.
Now these dollar signs are way, way, way too much for Brown. But I can see a team, with a ton of cap space, maybe our bay area rivals, the Oakland Raiders, with around $59 million in cap room for 2014, taking a swing at him.
If so, we may be saying goodbye to Brown, and hello to a high draft pick.
