But, the numbers are not on his side. He's not an eventual replacement for Gore. I suppose he's insurance at the FB position in case Bruce Miller gets injured. That may save him.
He's the only healthy pure power back. He's a good ST player as well, which is what is keeping him employed with the niners.

And, they did just waive Alex Debniak today, so that helps Dixon. Debniak is 6'2", 240 lbs.

On the other hand, they also re-signed Jason Schepler, who at 6'2", 274 lbs., is a real beast. He's a hybrid TE/Full Back. I don't know. I just have a feeling they're looking for ways to replace Dixon with a younger guy. They're bringing in all these ST standouts - they even have this rookie, Nick Moody, who is pretty much a special teams specialist linebacker.

Stackin' dem backs like we're broke and smokin crack, so we put em in our sack and put it on the rack.
I gotta knack for talkin' smack, but here's another fact: I lack a certain tact when I'm fiendin' for a snack.

Once Gore is gone, Harbs will run RB by committee like he did at Stanford
Keeps em all fresh, with long carreers, and your not screwed if your bell cow gets injured along the way
James and Hunter are perfect for doing that sort of thing, add a powerback inside runner to the mix
and thats a soild rotation
Hampton loves to run inside and is very powefull, Im rooting for him to eventually take that job
