Rule 1: Don't be a jerk. Certain topics will get heated debates but please remember, disagree/attack the idea and not the poster.
I am getting a little tired of posting this. So next time, expect a more serious reaction.

Come on, you really do not mean this, do you?
That would mean that all of the following linebackers are better than Brooks.
Darius Fleming
Dan Skuta
Michael Wilhoite
Nick Moody
Cam Johnson
Parys Haralson
I think that you mean that Brooks is the worst starting linebacker on the team.

lol yes that is what I meant, sorry I don't proof read my posts but that's what you guys are for right? Which is why goldson was spelled golston and they're was spelled there, If you want me to use it in a sentence I can. There are alot of guys on the webzone that are defensive of their team and the players, they're not always right about their stance however.
I do want to thank you guys for the knowledge and insight that you have on the team, I feel like I'm learning alot by talking to you guys. I am stubborn and do not give up even when I know I'm wrong. For those who have called it a dead end thread and have nothing to gain out of talking in this thread.. why don't you do yourself a favor and let the thread die. You posting in the thread isn't helping it go away anytime soon, so take your thoughts elsewhere
One last thought. I know alot of you guys talk about brooks being a pro bowl reserve and what not but alex smith was a probowl reserve and probably isn't even a top 20 qb.. Again brooks is a good player just not a top 15 olb IMO.

No offense at all...think you just took the wrong approach, that's all. If you came in and said, "Hey guys, looking for areas where we can improve next year and want to know what you think of the Brooks/McDonald combination...why they don't seem to garner the stat lines Smith/Smith do...help a brotha out!" you'd get a TON of great educational feedback. But to insist our most well-rounded LB isn't up to snuff b/c he doesn't put up the flashy stats is grounds for a serious NT beat-down. LOL. Anyhow, feel free to PM me if you have any other points you'd like to discuss. But "approach" is everything with NT...we have some VERY knowledgeable fans who understand the game so that is why you got some flack.

what does NT stand for? Beatdown is a lil much, I would say I stood my ground for someone that is new to this.
anyway, wake me up when it's football season. I can't stand hockey or LeBron james. I'll use baseball to put me to sleep.

Welcome to Niner Talk. But, you should proof read your posts.
People here will eat you alive if you make dumb mistakes, and no disrespect intended you are making a lot of them.
There is qualatative difference between the strong side and the weak side assignments. I am by no means perfect. I often confuse the two because it is like looking in a mirror, and I can never figure out why right hand looks like it is my left hand.
My spelling is atrocious, and I mean really atrocious, but there is no way in my father's house (hell for you humans) that Vernon Gholston is a misspelling of Dashon Goldson.
The Pro Bowl and All Pro are not the same. The names are similar, but the difference is basic NFL football. Making All Pro is a clear indication that the player is an elite player. Making the Pro Bowl could mean that the player is a popular or well known player,
Alex Smith may have have been a Pro Bowl alternate, but Ahmad Brooks was a second team All Pro, not a Pro Bowl reserve.
I suggest that you be more judicious in your posts, proof read them, and try to avoid calling the rest of us homers, much less ignorant homers. I maybe a homer, I even may be ignorant, but calling me an ignorant homer is not necessary, if you are logical and disciplined in expressing your ideas.
Anyway, welcome.

Thank you for the welcome.
Firstly, it is easy for me to spell dashon goldson. It may not be for you but it sure was for me. I spelt golston as so not the correct way. So maybe now you can see where the mistake was made. I do know who dashon goldson is as I've been a 49er fan for about 15 years and followed them every single year win or lose. I also know who Vernon gholston is because he was well known for being a first round bust. This is something easily accessed online but I've followed both players since they were drafted. so you can take me for my word or not. I don't care. Just like I don't care about being ridiculed for my spelling or knowledge of the game.
Ahmad Brooks WAS selected to be a probowl reserve. The 49ers' Pro Bowl alternates: Lee, guard Alex Boone, linebacker Ahmad Brooks, tackle Anthony Davis, tight end Vernon Davis, center Jonathan Goodwin, cornerback Carlos Rogers and special teamer C.J. Spillman. I will not say that any of you are ignorant homers anymore. We've been a great team for 2 years and so most 49ers fans think just about everyone on our team is a pro-bowl or all pro caliber player. This isn't the case. Much like the steelers great defense a couple years back, they were able to build continuity and play better as a unit. Why have the ravens played so good? same reason. Reed Lewis Suggs Ngata. Flaco Rice Boldin.
Every unit has it's weak links and I'm not implying that brooks is one. I think if anyone needs to go it is rogers notice how I didn't put Rodgers? EAT ME. lol only joking. I am saying however that brooks and McDonald can be upgraded. You were suggesting that brooks was the most well rounded linebacker. I disagree as willis is a seasoned veteran that is pretty darn good at everything he does and bowman is a better blitzer and probably better in coverage too. Well aldon smith struggled dropping back in coverage his rookie year, I think he made some serious strides this year. He also was the best against the run and think he was much improved this year.
I'm not asking brooks to fill up the stat sheet. I just don't see brooks constantly in the qbs face, nor do I see mac. They might be good against the run but they also brought whitner down in the box to help and what side did whitner lay hat from? I realize that the cameras have other people on our defense to focus on. I went to the seattle and Arizona game though, and anyway when I watch football, I typically watch the offensive and defensive line more than the average fan. That's where the game is usually won, at the LOS. I usually see a lot of pressure from the smiths, a decent amount of pressure from the middle when they did bring willis or bowman, and a decent amount from brooks and mac.
To sum it all up. I felt like I needed to vent because a lot of you were acting like it would be this miracle if lemonier or tank took over for the majority of the snaps by the seasons end. Why draft those players if you felt like they couldn't contribute now and later. You guys pretty much are all in agreement that McDonald and Patton are going to have an impact this year and if lattimore comes back strong from that injury whew-eee. Why not our defensive guys too, and not just reid. A couple years ago when aldon was drafted people said he would need to be groomed. And yes it did take time but he got there. Yeah he was a first round pick so it is different but parys harlson was a solid starter at the time. We needed to generate more of a puss rush and that is why smith was drafted. Same thing IMO applies to this year.
That was all and I won't say anymore. Go 49ers. After a terrible drought for so long and to get so close 2 years in a row.... This is our year

Believe it or not any position on this team other then possibly MLB where we have the top two in the league could be upgraded, there is always someone that can play better then the current player on the team. But as a team sport the defense we have currently with the exception of a semi weak secondary is truly second to none. Everyone in our defense primarily the front 7 plays a major role in how our defense succeeds. Take two players away from that front seven no matter the weaker links or our best two or a combination of best and weakest and our front 7 will struggle. Im wording it this way because of the suggestion that Brooks and RayMac should have picked up the slack when the Smiths were injured but its hard for any team to have to pick up the slack for 2 main contributers for a team. RayMac was constantly occupying 2 Olineman similar to the way Justin was how does he pick up the slack there? Occupy 4 Olineman? When Aldon became obviously hurt and was playing with one arm how does Brooks pick up the slack without leaving giant holes in the defense on the strong side? Its pretty hard to blindside a QB when he's already staring at you. I am not a ignorant, blind or dumb homer, I just know what I see with my eyes and hear with my ears. Many times throughout the season during games, I saw Brooks and RayMac playing there roles to a t and stopping many plays for losses or at the line, and heard many time about Brooks being the unsung hero of the defense. Really the weak spot in the front 7 that anyone should be more concerned with filling and hoping one of the new players can contribute maximum ability to is the NT position where we seemed to be the least successful last year. Just my opinion.
