JP in his prime, his last four seasons in SF - 14 sacks
Brooks in his last four seasons with SF - 23.5 sacks
JP real good in pass defense, very bad against the run, couldn't hold the edge
Brooks pretty good in pass defense, extremely good against the run, holds the edge better than any strong side LB in the league

JP 6'3", 235 and fast.
Brooks 6'4", 255 and a little faster

Bottom line: no possible way JP starts at strong side linebacker on a team with Ahmed Brooks.
Julian Peterson never fit all that well in the 3-4 defense. He couldn't take on linemen well enough in the running game. Brooks was born to play in a 3-4 IMO. JP was better in a 4-3.

I would agree with this. JP was an elite athlete, but so is Brooks. People forget, or perhaps are unaware, that Brooks was viewed as an elite prospect in college. Many had him penciled in as a top 5-10 pick before he killed his draft stock with marijuana abuse. He is an extremely versatile player that could play any LB spot in a 4-3 or 3-4. He is such a talented athlete, that at times they had him return kickoffs when he was at Virginia.
