I'm totally cool with that.
Okoye seems like an entirely different player than he was last year. I was on the
Okoye bandwagon since before he was a 49er; I thought it was a perfect project for a good team with veteran players around.
And
Okoye is just barely starting to develop into a 53-man-caliber player; who knows how good he could be a couple of years down the road? And at 23 years old, he's still as young as a lot of rookies.
Okoye more than held his own this last preseason game. That's no to say he's ready to start, but at least now he seems like he knows what he's doing.
After your 3rd season in the league, a team can give you a contract extension. They could probably lock up
Okoye for dirt cheap for maybe 3 or 4 years. If he develops into a quality player by then, he'd be a huge bargain (and you need a few bargains on your team if you want to eventually win a SB).

I'm excited about
Tank too. The dude's a great player IMO. He's another guy whose contract I hope they extend next offseason. His ability to pressure the QB has never been questioned; his only question is in run support. But even if he doesn't become a starter, he's an extremely valuable guy to have in the rotation IMO.
Purcell not so much. Yeah he's had a great preseason, but he's nowhere near as talented as the aforementioned guys. And I don't like
Dorsey at DE; I'm hoping
Dorsey sticks around a few more years, but I want him purely to be a NT.
I'm not sure
Okoye will ever be a pro bowl player by any stretch of the imagination, but I still think he's a keeper.
