NICK MOODY thread

Looked good in coverage to me and very fast. But man did this guy get punked in run support. He looked a little soft, he needs to add some weight. I don't understand the infatuation with this guy by some people, wilhoite is better.

This dude can play safety and ILB at the same time!
we're thinking about giving moody more than 200 snaps in a season were in trouble.
I'm including special teams snaps.

Yes, the indication was that there was no one in the draft better than the guys they had...so unless they pick up a FA between now and TC I see him competing with Wilhoite or filling in for Bowman if he's not ready.

can't believe we passed on this dude, would have been an instant backup, imo

There were several guys I liked...but evidently Baalke and company didn't! Oh well!

Perryman was a missile on the field, very quick to the runner. I also liked McKinney and Anthony...but do I like them better than Tartt or Harold? No, not really. I think those two would/will play sooner than any ILB would given the amount of learning required in the middle.

There are a lot of similarities with Tartt and Moddy's body type.

Not sure if Trent felt like another team was going to take Tartt but he prob could have got him in the 3rd

Perryman just felt like a way better player in the 2nd round

Tartt going to play S and ILB at the same time just like Moody
lol

Actually, I see a comparison between Tartt and Perryman...their first steps are unbelieveable quick. That was Borland's strength as well, and is Bowman's. What that shows is recognition skills beyond the norm. As far as who might go where, both were considered 2/3 rounders by CBS and other sources, so

If they were looking for an anti-Graham guy Tartt is a much better choice than Perryman. They have starters and backups at both SS and ILB...so it seems to be a pick for a more specific skill set. Would love to crawl inside Baalke's mind to find out! LOL! Might have been a difficult decision.

I think we should have traded a few picks and took Perryman also, along with tart and Harold. We had enough picks. Quality over quantity at some point.

This is something I've hoped for but you need trading partners. When you bring in ten or more draft choices several years in a row it seems like one year could be dedicated to moving up. I would have traded back in the first a second time and traded a couple of 4ths to add 2 and 3rds. But my team would probably fire me after the first year!

Moody got better as he got more starts, but the most alarming thing was he couldn't finish the play by wrapping up and tackling. That's the one thing a LB needs to do well - tackle. His roster spot is on the hot seat, big time. I see Bellore making the team as a ST ace and he plays ILB. Then there's Wilhoite, Bow, and one other person between Moody/Bishop/Wheeler. Maybe two of those three if Bellore doesn't count as an ILB and is categorized as a ST specialist.

Cuts are gonna be hard this year. I guarantee that I will be upset and act childish for the better part of a day. Fair warning.

This is why some of us, correctly or not, had hoped for trading up for fewer picks. Of course, that might have meant giving up on guys like Smelter...which is painful to think about. With all the WR FAs and Smelter the camp is going to be crazy with talented young receivers. Good that Smelter will have the year off...helps his chances of sticking. I like Anderson, Flipper's son, and some of the others but the likelihood they will supplant Patton or Ellington is nil.

As for ILB...no one really knows just how these guys will compete but at least they have a number of credible players to pick from. I'm hoping Moody's tackling improves...but he's been here a while and that would seem to be a pretty fundamental skill to have worked on...maybe he was pressing, which can cause lapses. Perhaps he can channel Willis?
