It is such a pleasure to watch his hands when he catches the ball...just text book and smooth!

I usually agree with you, and I do hope the kid does well, but Crabtree is better than Patton and will likely continue to be. I think Crabtree and Patton are our starters next year with Patton sliding into the slot on 3 receiver sets, hopefully with Baldwin being #3.

Yeah its a stretch to say Patton will be better than Crabtree, the second we gave crabtree a QB who likes to drive the ball downfield look at how he exploded. If he didnt get injured there would be no way we could resign him cause he would be hitting ~1400 yards or so and would want his payday. Patton will be good and solid, I wanna see him against some monster corners like sherman or browner before proclaiming him the best WR on the team.

One thing we should already know about Patton - he's a gamer. He did more with his first chance than a lot of Niner receivers have done in a couple seasons. I agree that at this point it's a bit of a stretch to say he'll be better than Crabtree, but I think he's comparable to Crabtree. He's quick, shifty, gets open and knows how to play. And, he seems to have real good hands. Crabtree hands? Hard to say. 5280High is right - the test really starts in a few weeks when he begins trying to get open against Seahawks corners. But, let's not forget that he DID get open against the Vikings 1's.

Well, not so much a "good" QB. Just a better one. But aside from all that, I agree that Patton would make a great slot-type like Victor Cruz. Would love to have a great 1-2-3 receiving combo like the old Harrison-Wayne-Stokley combo Indy had, or the Holt-Bruce-Hakim group the Rams had. The closest thing to that recently was the Jennings-Nelson-Cobb group in Green Bay.
Crabtree-Boldin-Patton or Crabtree-Baldwin-Patton at some point in the near future would be really nice.

Anybody else notice in that Vikes game the moment he stepped into the lineup, our offense was finally starting to click? -Apart of me thinks Kaep knows this too (from the rapport built in camp), and likens Patton's size/hands to Crabtree's, which is why I think #11 is gonna be Kaep's favorite target throughout the majority of the season.
This guy's route-running is so crisp (I'll even say it's better than Crabtree's, no joke), it's like he's always open, and this will help clog up 2 defenders so guys like Moore, Boldin, or Davis are gonna be able to make plays.

Crabtree has a herky-jerky style that helps him avoid tacklers after the catch but Patton can be every bit as good or better at the other aspects of the game. Love Watching Crabtree making folks miss tackles. Love to watch Patton run routes and catch the ball. Will wait and see but I'd put my money on Patton being special, much of it to do with his attitude.

I don't know about favorite target, I think VD and Boldin are set in that role, but I've been saying for months now that I expect Patton to move up the depth chart and possibly end up as the #2 WR about 4 or 5 games in. Kyle Williams is nothing special, he's been reliably mediocre thus far in his career, he's up on the depth chart because of his experience in the system but as he fails to produce, I expect him to lose playing time to both Patton and Moore who have looked stellar thus far in the preseason.

That's not much of a stretch, but as soon as Crabtree is back he would be pushed to a 3 most likely. I think he would make a very good slot guy. If Baldwin turns out to be as advertized coming out of college we would be stacked at WR.

The quicks of Cruz , combined with the hands of crabtree and smooth route running of Reggie Wayne.
