Yup. I said the same thing when it happened. In the end though he pulled it in for a huge gain. I believe we scored anyways on that drive right?
Edit: I'd also like to add that I enjoy the energy he brings to the game. Despite not getting the playing time he should have he's always positive and you can tell his heart is in the game. He could have easily thrown a for ala lmj or Brandon Jacobs but he stayed quiet and supported his teammates through it all. If I remember correctly he's running down the sideline through the entire play when bowman intercepted matt Ryan in the last game at the stick for the win.

I believe so. But looking at the replay everyone else on the boot was double covered. Patton had single coverage and lost his man on the action. Patton sat down and Kap got the ball to him fast enough for him to catch it and make a move to the inside as the trailing cb was running to the outside to catch up.
he catches it clean and turns up the field that's an easy td.

This kid is special. I feel very confident about him and Ellington.

Patton and ellington will be exciting to watch. hopefully we have a good HC that will use them properly. maybe even sprinkle a little of holliday in there

I agree. He shoulda no doubt been the #3. In Fact I would even consider dumping Stevie and his $6 mil contract and give Patton his snaps and catches.

What would McDaniel do with our receiving corps?

Stevie replaces Crabtree. Lloyd is the one that took snaps away, IMO.

make or break year for him. I wouldn't be surprised if he got cut before training camp.

I would. He works hard and trains with Kap. He just has to see the field and take snaps that Crabtree and Brandon Lloyd were getting last year. We are losing at least 2 of our WRs from last season and who knows what we do with Stevie Johnson who also may have been underutilized last season. QP is good young cheap talent that we haven't allowed to see the field yet. Our new WR coach gives me hope that he will soon along with Bruce

Well - it is certainly make or break for various reasons. Receivers, as much as any position, typically are judged after 3 years. Baalke has said that the team always look at things on 3 year cycle, with the added proviso that sometimes you get players you don't plan for in free agency, etc.
But anyone still on the roster from last two year's drafts could have been in play for people that they looked at leaving this year. Yes - Patton could be cut, but Johnson could be too at his projected cost. He's always came across as being a hard worker, and who knows what the coaching changes really mean for any of our players at this stage?
It is pretty much a given we draft at least one WR, but it could be two.
I certainly wouldn't be judging Patton based on that fumble vs the Chargers. But there are a lot of variables we just don't know yet. You know that after the draft we normally end up with about 8 or 9 guys to fight for around 5 roster spots, and I only think Boldin and Ellington are guaranteed spots just now - but I still think the team leans toward giving Patton one more chance. Whether he takes it is another matter...
