4-6 week injury doesn't make sense to me why we're putting him on IR
NFL teams can give two players on injured reserve the return designation but they must be sidelined for eight weeks. Carradine would be eligible to come back after San Francisco's bye week Nov. 26 against the Seahawks.

Stupid rule...a player should be allowed to come back any time not 8 weeks after of a 17 week season. Besides, when a player comes back and when activated, someone else will have to be cut anyway so what's the point? It's not like saving a roster spot is helping the team in any fashion...quite the opposite actually.
It's not about saving the roster spot. It's about being able to bring back a good player who needs time to recover.
They've had this rule to some degree since 2012 but it was only to allow one player to come bag on a return tag. Now teams can bring back two if more than one good player lands on IR.
Gronk was placed on IR last year but since NE already brought back another player they couldn't bring back Gronk. Under the new rule the could have.
Yeah, I have no issue with the idea of the rule which does save a potential roster spot and bring in another player in the interim...my issue is the 8 week timetable.
Many of the injuries these days are in the 4-6 week window. The NFL needs to adjust to a 4 week window esp. given there are only 16 games and missing 8 weeks is brutal.
If you're going to get hurt, you better do it at the beginning of the year or your season is over.
