His knee is not healed. I'm convinced this is the situation, the 49ers feel why use him until THEY REALLY need him so they let his knee heal.

Clueless aint even getting that chance... and we can't be possibly be saving him for the 2nd half of the season, cause that would be just straight out duhhhhhhh!!!??
Todd Kelly was a bust, but the guy got his playing time and chances..
McGrew, Balmer and Ifiyanyi got their playing time before the team realized that they messed up on drafting them..
when do we see Clueless??
Balmer signed with the Washington Redskins on November 8, 2011. On August 2, 2012, it was reported that he did not show up to training camp two days in a row and his agent has not replied to any inquiries as to Balmer's whereabouts.[1] It was assumed that, Balmer left the team after Redskins officials checked his hotel room and saw that all of Balmer's personal effects were gone.[2] Head coach Mike Shanahan announced that the team had finally made contact with Balmer on August 11, but did not explain the reason for his disappearance or his future with the Redskins.[3]

His knee looked fine during training camp and preseason. More than fine actually. He was a pass rushing threat.

Tank just hasn't learned his new position to the extent our coaches deem necessary and he isn't on ST. He also seems to be liable in the run game on the interior in preseason at times. He is probably our best rusher there but he has a ways to go with a lot of stuff. He will get there but it just takes time when you got Justin and Ray as mainstays

Bound to say, this looks like the best explanation I have seen so far.

Have you not seen the lack of a pass rush this year? I think they really needed him, but either he is just not that good or there is another issue (healthy, discipline, stupidity). It is not because they haven't needed a pass rush.

Our "best pass rusher"? That is hilarious. Based on what? He has never appeared in a real game because he apparently makes Nate Davis look like Einstein. Based on his nickname? The kid ran a 4.75 at 275 lbs. He looked good in preseason playing against backups, but so did THOMAS CLAYTON a few years back. Now he's close to 300 lbs, and doesn't play special teams. He sure can't be any faster, hasn't learned the defense enough to satisfy Fangio or Tomsula, and the other DL play special teams.
By contrast, Aaron Lynch ran a 4.6 and plays special teams very well. Aldon Smith runs a 4.7. Those are our two best pass rushers -- by far.
Carradine used to run a 4.75 about 25 lbs ago. On what basis is he our best pass rusher? He can't even get on the field. I'm anxious to hear this one.

I want to think that we're just deep at the position and the management wants everyone to earn their spot.
But then our lack of sacks would indicate that we aren't being very successful at the pass rush, and that maybe Tank should have gotten a shot before Aldon came back...

if you read what he said carefully you'd realize he said he is probably our best pass rusher there (along the d-line) that would eliminate lynch and smith who are not d-lineman. thanks for playing.

No I disagree. He would be active and the coaching staff would be modfying the game plan to give him a shot on the field if they felt he was healthy. I think he will probably be 100% sometime this year or he will be put on ps or ir.I bet he gets smarter around thanksgiving.

If the Niners draft a defensive end early in the next draft Tank is officially a bust.

Exactly bro. This guys response to my post was over the top and I provided the disclaimer that he was probably our best rusher on the DL. That was by no means a definitive statement buy just watching him this offseason he got to the QB often but he struggled in other areas. Even at that I don't want to slight Justin as a rusher or anyone else. It just seems Tank can get there better than most. Some folk just get there joy in admonishing others I guess. I didn't get the impression Tank was injured in preseason

He looked good to me physically but off in the run game. Then again I ain't a scout or coach. I just think his mental game is off but who knows?Originally posted by brodiebluebanaszak:No I disagree.
