If I were the coach, I would try him out on 3rd and long downs. .. an obvious passing situations. I would try and teach him just two things: a) Identify screens and react to it and b) a running play.
What are the odds that the other teams would try any of those? Would that be too hard to comprehend?
He wouldn't need to learn all the other stuff for now.
BTW: Aaron Lynch has been pretty impressive and I would try to give him as many downs as possible, or perhaps he's not very good at defending against the run?

Agree.
Getting him reps will help him put it all together. I hope.

There could be a lot going on here. I'm sure there are good reasons to keep him off the field. They may even be the reasons that are being discussed publicly.

Everybody needs to stop looking at the draft status. He was a one year wonder at Florida State. Noone can just assume hes ready because hes got talent. Theres not enough to know that hes even got the talent.
He was getting pushed around by 2nd stringers in preseason.
Im not mad cuz hes not on the field because i know the coaches are playing the better players

he won't justify his pick position this season. that's two years of nothing, when just about everybody drafted after him in rd 2 has been has been playing and helping their teams to varying degrees.
the point of drafting high picks is getting playmaking soon and often. how would last year's team and this year's team be different with a week-to-week playmaker doing his job?
just look at all those rd 2 guys after tank and add up all the plays they've made; one of them could've been here, helping win the nfc championship game last year and and easing the difficulty this year.
i wish i knew if his knee is truly sound. or has he lost most of the magic he possessed as a 260 lb player, now being 290 and slower and less agile; just a pumped-up tweener with no wow factor.
i may be wrong, but i always thought he was only a 4-3 end talent, and being even 270 lb would hurt his play. i mean, how much can you pump a guy up and still retain any athletic superiority he had at his natural size? he weighed 220 lbs at most when he started college; he's not a naturally huge guy. at some point your weight-gainer program will rob you athleticism. think about it--his best tape was as a 250+ pound player. who is this guy as a 290 lb player?

That's BS. He was not pushed around. Guy generates pressure from DLine position. JH has to look for more from Dobbs.

I agree he wasn't getting pushed around at all! He created pressure a lot in the preseason.
Zero sacks again! I think it's time to throw him in against the Rams.

This guy was our best pass rusher in the preseason, yet he's not playing? WTF man, wtf?! Just put him in there on passing downs, who cares if he doesn't fully understand the playbook if that's all you use him for.

Huge coaching fail not to recognize the value of getting Tank's pass rushing ability onto the field for 5-10 high leverage snaps per game instead of splitting up a couple dozen nondescript snaps of assignment football between TJE and Dobbs every game. It's especially egregious considering pass rushing is the weak point of our defense right now until Aldon comes back.
He needs to play against Denver. We have to steal a game on the road at some point and without a running game, Denver can be had if we pressure Peyton enough to move off his spot.

This guy has to be in the doghouse for wasting a year on IR. He could have spent last season learning the playbook but it seems like he did anything but that. It's the difference between being amateur and a professional. Guy needs a wakeup call because he clearly has ability.
