keep our second, our returning guys on both side of the ball is more than enough to allow us to make a deep run in the playoffs.. hell in my opinion,, we are already built that way.it will not be tragic if we do not trade for this guy

It won't be tragic if we don't trade for him, but it sure as hell will make us scarier on offense and improve our chances of winning it all. The more weapons you have on offense, the better. I'd rather not try and get by with Kyle Williams and a couple receivers coming off injuries. Better to be safe than sorry. We have a million picks, make a move.

Wow...we need a WR and desperately have to trade for one? Just for a moment, let's forget the WIDE part of WR:
Going Left to right, Boldin Vance Vernon Baldwin. No matter how you slice it, we have 4 really good RECEIVERS, forget about whether WIDE receiver or not. That lineup is a sterling bunch of 4 (FOUR) guys to throw to, and to date, #89 has hardly been a target...or more correctly, Kap has not been able to get the ball to a 4th read....Now, part of that is roman....and it is almost criminal not to be using all 4 of these guys a lot on an everyday basis. Why do we need a 5th top flite receiver when we already have 4 and roman or kap or both aren't using what we have? I would make a plea that we use the terrific resources we already have instead of getting all wound up in getting another WR.
It is no secret that some very good teams have run a 3 TE set, all 3 TEs being superb receivers. Well, we got two excellent WRs, and two excellent TEs. We need to use all four and quit worrying about the fact that crabs isn't out there. We are so much improved at the ball catching positions (WR and TE) over anytime in the last 13 yrs, that it is ridiculous to want to acquire yet another ball catcher....that probably won't be used. You really want to see better production from our ball catchers or let's just say receivers generically? Great, have roman or JH instruct kap to use all 4 . It's amazing what happens when your qB starts spreading the ball around to 4 guys, ok, with Miller, 5 guys. But we aren't doing that, and that is a coaching goof up. Yes it is JH's team, but roman gets the brunt of the blame here.
We don't need more WRs. We need to USE THE RECEIVERS WE HAVE. Roman is slow on the uptake, and most times doesn't even use what we have. You don't like the receivers we got? Well, then get a better OC, who WILL USE THE RECEIVERS WE HAVE.

Yeah, the 4th string RB that is healthy but inactive is a "key player"

Agreed, we have a LOT of talent. Anyone see how well the Panthers used Ginn last night? Lead the team with 80 yards and even dropped a 50 yard potential TD...made some good RAC on 3rd downs as well. If we used our personnel better, we'd be unstoppable!

FWIW Schefter thinks it makes sense to trade for Gordon by giving CLE a 2nd and Jon Baldwin-
• Browns WR Josh Gordon to the 49ers for a second-round pick and WR Jon Baldwin: No matter what they say, the Browns are willing to deal Gordon for the right price. So far no one has met it, not with Gordon one strike away from a year-long suspension. But San Francisco still could use another wide receiver, Cleveland could use more picks, and the Browns already have shown they are not shy about dealing away playmakers for those.

Baldwin a good WR? lol... the dude was a bust before coming to us and dude has like what? 5 catches with us so far, lets not jump to conclusions here. vance is still unproven as well, only 2 reliable proven stars you pointed out are vernon and boldin. Again the guys who are always making the plays for us.

Also people are only thinking about now. Personally the idea of only having Crabtree, Patton, and Baldwin under contract for next season scares the s**t out of me.

We should trade for Gordon asap. If he gets a 100 yard game on Sunday, you better believe his asking price will be a first round pick.
Getting him, whether for a 1st, 2nd, or all of our 50 draft picks would be huge. <---I kid, I kid
I think bringing in Gordon would be akin to the Patriots trading a 2nd round pick for Corey Dillon who was just as big a headcase but it almost guaranteed a Super Bowl which is exactly what happened.
It's like when Death Row Records brought 2pac onto the roster when they already had Dre, Snoop, Dogg Pound and whoever else - it put them over the top.
I hope we get it done!!

This. The only proven receivers on the roster are Boldin, Crabtree, Vernon, and Manningham - two of whom are currently coming off major injuries. Vance and Baldwin have shown some flashes of potential here and there but calling them excellent receivers is a bit premature. Lets not cloud
potential with
reality.

Another reason why trading for Gordon makes so much sense. Have to think ahead. Receiving core looks ugly and incomplete for next year.
