For the most part but actual numbers may differ.

He has stepped up..with all the other TE out...but I just don't trust him...he fumbles a lot...he fumbled this last game...just lucky the ball went out of bounds...

If that was Vernon, he would have taken a step further back, did a little stop shimmy and probably been tackled one inch from the first.

All I can say is how can't you like a TE who runs strong after the catch. He showed this on a few catches his rookie year and you could see the potential. Now, it looks like he has gained confidence and could be a wrecking ball after the catch.
Because he has to catch it first to actually get any of that done and he seems to have issues with that.

Doing it now. Playing a game where your number is called maybe no more than 5 times a game is very difficult. Throw in some drops on his early rookie chances and the pressure begins to build. Then the player is finally allowed to get into a rhythm, catch with space and before you know it, he is more focused on being in the flow rather than trying to force a catch. Also throw in a QB who doesn't make a receiver sit and wait for the ball knowing a defender is closing in. Instead, you get the ball on time as practiced and everything begins to flow.

He still drops a lot of passes.
Vernon seemed to do just fine leading the team in receiving yards and leading the NFL in receiving TDs.

Vance Mcwhack has Three in 29 catches. As a reference VD had only 8 and had many more touches. 451 catches to be exact.

Exactly. Make all the excuses you want that it was our previous QBs fault but the fact is he's having the same type of drops under a completely different QB. We're not talking about off the tip of his finger drops. These are hit him in the numbers/right in his hands type drops. Go back and look at this draft profile. He was known for bobbling the ball at Rice also.
guy still stinks. cut him.

He better be looking over his shoulder, the Belldozer has looked good in the little play time he's had!

Guy was graded out as the second best blocking TE in the NFL last year and is our best blocking TE, on a team that wants its identity to be run first and with a team struggling in both run and pass pro. Has one year left on his rookie deal and has turned in two solid back to back performances in games.

Why would we cut him as opposed to letting him compete and try to earn his roster spot when he is still on a rookie deal ?

Logic, not even once.
Vance McDonald had 17 catches in 30 games with Kap as QB. He now has 12 catches in 3 games with Gabbert. No doubt VD leaving has been a big factor, but he is actually catching the ball now. This could be a huge plus given how good he is at blocking.

He could be a nice weapon if he continues to improve his pass catching. Love how he lowers his shoulder into defenders.

He has 12 catches and 1 drop with Gabbert at QB. Its ludicrous to claim that he's not having better results with Gabbert throwing him the football.

He may never have great hands but over the past two games he has 130+ yards receiving and 2 TD's.

Over the course of a full season that would put him over 1,000 yards so he is doing pretty good suddenly with a brand new QB.
