Good run blocker. That's what he is. HUGE disappointment as a receiver. Considering the expectations of being a 2nd round pick. Glad the zone finally has their blinders off for Vance.

That's the thing with Vance. Great blocker. But so many negative plays in other instances. Its like he has bad mojo. And this is coming from someone who wanted Vance to emerge as a receiving threat so we could comfortably replace Vernon Davis.
Agree

Still kicking the dirt because we could have had Zach Ertz instead

Wasn't he drafted before Vance? He really hasn't done much IMO.

Hard to 'miss a block' when 3 Giants are 2 yards deep in your hole before you even get there to block. He's an EXCELLENT blocker. Let's no minimize that. And now that VD is about to get traded, he's going to learn how to be a pass catcher again (hopefully it works); did you see all the routes he was running last night? Vance, Celek and Bell. I'm cool with that.

Only if we hadn't taken Reid in the first round though. Makes me wonder though if Baalke purposefully avoided Stanford players to spite Jim or if that was ever a factor. Seems like we rarely drafted anyone from Stanford and the players we did take in through free agency weren't worth keeping. Probably never know.

He trained under VD. What do you expect? LOL.
On the real, that may be just what he needed. Public display of his 95% effort on passing plays.

Celek and Bell are the future. VD and VMcD can step off.

Scheme fits. Ertz is a far better receiver but not as a blocker. Ertz would likely play less snaps here in Harbs system at this level then he does in Philly as the number 2 because he is a mediocre blocking end.
Always easy to say "wish we would have drafted or signed so and so", but scheme fit is important. Harbs scheme and use of 2 tight ends required 2 guys who can block first and foremost.

Yup. He sucks at tracking the ball. He's shown that a few times in his career. That was an example.

I don't think that matters. If the talent is on the team, coaches need to use it. The job is to make it difficult for defenses, not make it difficult for yourself and easier for the defense.

Agreed. But look at the Harbaugh-Roman offense, they did not try to fit the scheme to the talent. Guys like Hunter, James, Ellington and Patton all should have been fed the ball in space. While we should not have been trying to stretch defenses vertically with Crabs, Q and Stevie J.
Square pegs do not fit in round holes. At least Geep has done some of this, would have liked to see him use Bush more intelligently when Reggie is healthy. He can be used on screens both from the backfield or by lining up as a WR, and line him up in the slot and or find ways to get him the ball in space. Heck find ways to get Hayne the ball in space too. Use Ellington more, not just the first series of the game.
