He'll get cut and the Chiefs will snag him.

Another 2nd rd pick with 0 production, for all the good player baalke drafts he sure strikes out in the 2nd. 2nd rounders should be producing and playing a lot cough cough TANK

Oh there is no doubt in my mind McDonald will be cut in the offseason. Is guaranteed. He would already have had the luxury of having 2 years to prove his worth (by the end of this season), that's a lot longer than AJ Jenkins had. Is time to keep an eye out for good TE prospects in the coming draft, I said it long ago we will have to redraft another TE before Vernon retires. A 2nd round pick for a TE who can only block is not going to fly.

I'm still not giving up on McDonald yet...but, the guy has to start producing more for where he was drafted. Yes, his blocking has improved since he came into the league, but he's got to do more in the passing game catching passes. At Rice, they lined him up out wide a few times like a WR...he caught at least 40 passes a year or more. You look at other TEs from the 2013 draft...Kelce, Escobar, etc...they're starting to really come around. McDonald has got to step it up one of these games and turn the corner...the drop-off in production from our 2nd TE ever since D. Walker left has been huge. Walker had/has suspect hands at times but he did produce catching passes and as a blocker in the running game.

It's stupid to give up on Vance. People are so petty here it's crazy.
Yes he had some issues, yes the fumble vs the Rams was bad. Yes the failed catch vs Carolina last year sucked but he'll be fine. He just isn't being used. Everyone wants to talk up Delanie Walker now that he's playing well with the Titans but Delanie's best season with us was in 2012 when he had a whopping 21 catches for 344 yards and 3 TDs.
And let's not forget Delanie was about a 50/50 guy and had his own share of drops for us. Anyone remember Vernon Davis in his first few seasons? Guy couldn't catch a cold and his drops came at the worst damn times.
Vance is big, has good speed for someone his size and has been a very good blocker. If they give him the opportunities he'll make plays.
Look at Jordan Cameron. Guy was a nobody the first 2 seasons. His 3rd season he put up pro bowl level numbers and is considered one of the better tight ends in the game now.
Anyone thinking McDonald is getting cut is delusional.

Yep. To add to the last line, anyone who compares McDonald's situation to that of AJ Jenkins, who literally contributed nothing at all, is delusional.

How many times has he been given a chance?
He would've had a TD vs St Louis if Vernon didn't feel the need to play defense.
McDonald imo is our answer to predictability on offense. He's a good enough blocker that he can fill in for Miller as a FB in those packages and pose a bigger threat in the passing game.
You guys need to stop being so friggin petty. The kid is young and he'll be fine. Team has never used their #2 TEs under Harbaugh that much. Most of the time they've been used as blockers. Like I said earlier how much did Delanie contribute? He was pretty much invisible til the last few seasons with the niners.

its a bit of the chicken and the egg thing. if he showed more promise as a catcher he would probably would see more balls. the coaches would play him more often and the qb would target him more often. you also cant say he would have had a td, we've all seen him drop insanely easy balls. wide open? yes. a for sure td? not with him.

He has never dropped a ball thrown to him when he's facing the pass. Most of his drops were concentration type things. Similar to the drop Anquan had during the game.
As for the chicken and the egg thing...to a certain extent yes but Vernon Davis has chit hands and he was given the opportunity to improve(even if he's done it by bringing everything into his body)
Like i mentioned earlier #2 TE in this offense hardly sees the ball in the passing game.

and thats why he has to catch the passes when he gets the chance. what does he have like 11 career catches in around 25 or so targets? its not a good look for a second rounder a year and a half into his career especially when some undrafted guy has come in and made some difficult catches look easy.

Would expect more from this group as a whole.
Would expect harbs n co to be able to find ways to get all 3 TEs on the field and be a threat.
Like it or not when vd is healthy he's good for 900 and 10+.
How soon some of us forget the early d walker years when balls were clanging off his hands left and right it was almost like every one ended up an int and when he caught it you where worried about a fumble. vance has had similar moments but has also had some steam roller moments, give the dude some time trolls. Carrier can catch and definitely could be a weapon RIGHT NOW while he develops as a blocker.
is it our super creative think tank cant figure out a way to get more then 25 catches out of the #2 guy
Maybe the niners simply don't have a guy who they believe can threaten a D more in the pass than the run
Or is it just a part of harbs philosophy in the pros.
and we're all bent out of shape because that dynamic multiple TE component hasn't translated or really tried in the pros as much as we'd hoped. Lotta RARA surrounding his O at the time coupled with how brady was using the 2TE set.....whole lot of red shades and Kool Aid them days.
