thl408, great, great work!!!! Your breakdown is objective and well-done!
All: Don't forget we can access whomeam's game videos as well to see each of these plays (bigger picture).
One thing that stands out to me is the OL getting beat by a 4-man rush instantly. I see DL even with or already past the OL forcing a rush in CK's head. The other thing I noticed is the types of routes...again, many deeper, straight-lined and maybe a curl/slight come-back. Also, almost all routes are run very deep 10-20+ yards and some of these stills only show one or two receiving options. Is there a hot read? An outlet? That said, when CK hits that back step, it does appear the WR's ARE in fact, getting the needed separation.
Now, as to CK, clearly the aforementioned issues don't seem to help the clock in his head any, but we also can't dismiss some real problems here either. There are many first-read open options here he is just not pulling the trigger on Alex Smith-like (Boldin, Hunter, etc.). He's got to pull the trigger on the screen to Hunter otherwise that's an illegal OL down field penalty. It seems in many of these case, he's missing the opportunities to throw guys open and continues to be reliant on the strength of his arm...e.g. he WAITS until a WR is wide open and guns it in there raher than throwing him open and allowing R/YAC. He's late...a lot. Accuracy seems to be pretty bad too...not just on the short stuff but passes behind receivers, very low throws where receivers have to dive on the ground to catch them (preventing RAC), etc. It's funny, he seems to have a better deep touch pass (to Boldin over the LB) than he does on short to intermediate passes.
Right now he's not trusting his WR's. He's GOT to hit these guys just before their breaks b/c they are open. The last still really captures it...CK hits his back foot and every receiver is open (some even after their breaks). 3 guys go deep (again)...VD is wide open, Baldwin is open "enough" and Williams is open. Boldin appears to have more than a step underneath coming across. This seems like another issue...not attacking the middle of the field at all...either b/c of CK or b/c we don't exploit it enough with VD, Boldin and McDonald...we certainly need to utilize some crossing routes badly. This is a play where a veteran QB looks to Baldwin, pump-fakes drawing the S over and then comes back and lofts it to VD over the LB for a huge gain.
Any other observations?
