The Browns have dealt QB Colt McCoy to the 49ers.

Do we have to pay the $1.5 million he was owed?

yup.

ask him to restructure
All these posts about JH cashing in McCoy in a couple years by developing and coaching him up like Alex are laughable...

A) He'd have to have significant starting playing time (obviously unlikely with CK7, who God forbid doesn't get hurt)

B) Apparently McCoy is only under contract this yr, so unless he lights it up in preseason and the unlikely event gets extended it's doubtful JH will have the time to coach him up as much as Alex was.

Only way I see McCoy making a positive return in investment is if the Niners draft a rook, rookie outplays McCoy for either #2 or #3 QB spot, and a desperate team rather than wait for the Niners to release him, makes a trade for a conditional future pick (the least likely scenario)

whats Colt's contract? is he just for 2013?
Solid but not spectacular, young back-up QB for a mid and late round pick....I'll take it.
Serviceable backup. Better than Tolzien and Harbaugh will probably make him better too. Good move.

This move means that Tolzien isn't as good as the Zone thinks.

Lord Tolzien is a Touchdown God and will be the starter by week 6
I rather have Victor Cruz.

Sando:
Colt McCoy's addition to the San Francisco 49ers via trade from the Cleveland Browns gives the team additional young depth behind Colin Kaepernick, and at an affordable price.San Francisco is sending fifth- and seventh-round picks to the Browns for McCoy and a sixth-rounder, according to Matt Maiocco.McCoy is 26 years old and has made 21 starts. He gives the 49ers a younger player with starting experience, a third-round draft pedigree and a manageable salary.McCoy is scheduled to earn $2.325 million in 2013, the final year of his rookie deal.
So we acquired a backup QB and moved up/added a 6th for a very late 5th and a throw away 7th? Nice!
