Goldson was the Foundation of our secondary and made it not only difficult, but dangerous to throw in the middle of the field. Does dahl have that ability? What safety at this point has that ability? Where is the logic in subtracting key defensive players in a division that is become stronger offensively by the day, without replacing that player with someone formidable?
"The 49ers didn't spend a ton of money on this guy. This signing is the equivalent of a high priority undrafted free agent. If he makes the team, awesome. It doesn't matter what role he plays on this team. Vic F, Harbaugh and Baalke are much better at evaluating talent for their system than I am"
So was Charles Darwin with evolution, but he has shown to NOT be infallible. Same applies for the 49ers FO that you assume to be immune to mistakes. It seems as though many of you subscribe to every word from the pundits and NFL network. When the truth is that they make bad calls just as you and I.
I am not sure if your point is it was a mistake to let goldson go or to give Dahl the time of day? In either situation, it is what it is and the Dahl move really doesn't stop the 49ers from pursuing any FA they wanted to get in the first place. And the FO of the 49ers does know more about player evaluation than you or I. They are paid professionals who job is to do exactly that. And I am not sure about the pundit stuff. I don't watch nfl network or espn for that matter. Common sense is common sense, if they agree with what I've said then its merely a coincidence, not me parroting their words. I find it hilarious if Dahl ends up starting on this defense next year solely because of how many people it would bother despite whether he plays well for us or not.

Free agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha will visit the Saints on Sunday.
Asomugha is leaving his 49ers visit, but they remain in the hunt. Asomugha, 32 in July, played for new Saints DC Rob Ryan from 2004-08 while with the Raiders. Even after signing Keenan Lewis last week, New Orleans is still looking for more pieces. The New Orleans Times-Picayune thinks one of Patrick Robinson or Jabari Greer could be released.
I'm thinking Asomugha gets stuck reminiscing with Rob Ryan and he signs with New Orleans.....then the panic in the webzone thickens....

So basically Nnamdi wants more then a 1 year deal if he is planning on visiting with other teams. I would have loved for us to pick him up on the cheap, but if he's looking for more than 1 year, then keep looking. He's on the decline anyway from what Im hearing and is on the wrong side of 30 to lock him up long term.

Baalke has dropped the ball in free agency as far as the secondary is concerned. We couldn't afford Rogers-Cromartie or Talib on a 1 year 5 million dollar deal? The weak link on the team is only weaker with no help in sight. Other then Anquan Boldin the 49ers have done nothing in free agnecy. We could've used the money he spent on Skuta and Dahl and brought in one of those CB's. I could've drafted Tyrann Mathieu and made him a better special teams player then Dahl. Baalke's failure to address the secondary is just dissapointing, We'll be one of the teams in the next 5+ years that's good but never gets over the hump. We fail to address our biggest weakness every offseason. Waited 2 years to address a second WR,never added defensive line depth, and next offseason we'll still be talking about how weak the secondary is. When you have a weakness you address it and move on. You don't go cheap and move on. The Seahawks needed another playmaker and they traded for Harvin. We have a BIG need at FS and we sign Craig Dahl. We have a need for a big CB so we lowball Asomugha and let him take other visits. Monday we'll find out that he signed with NO for 1 year and 3 million dollars. Like it or not the Seahawks are the better team at this time. If we lose the division the Super Bowl dream is over. The 49ers aren't going into Seattle and win a playoff game.

I agree completely with all of this. Against many wishes on here I think at this point I would have to really step up efforts to move on Revis, I think more so now because of the all around gains Seattle has made on both sides of the ball. They can't afford to play games with musical secondary or trial and error.

Go hand Seattle their offseason championship trophy then.

Also this Revis talk just shows why some of you have no business running a football team. Giving up a first round pick and then bringin in a corner w/ knee issues for 12-15 million dollars. Fans are really funny we are all too emotional at times!

Really? Thanks for the education, glad we have you to reassure how the core of a team is built. Adding a player in free agency, key word "A", to the secondary isn't asking to break the bank or expect unrealistic contract offers. It's obvious who needs to be signed and who we need cap space for. So I can just disregard a concern for the current secondary because "we have a ton of picks" sorry, there's still a hole in the defense that could use veteran leadership with more skill than what is currently on the roster. What impact do you think one of the ton of draft picks will have as a rookie this year?..

If this Dahl guu's contract is 3 years 5mill then i gotta think and hope he's a special team ace only and not a starter right? I heard he got smoked in the passing game according to a Rams fan?? Wonder why they couldn't sign Woodson or Asomougha? Dahl is young and does seem hardnosed so who knows maybe he'll suprise us in his coverage skills deep and not let Julio Jones & Jacoby Jones run wild through our secondary next time.

Who said give up a first and bring him in for 12-15 million dollars,? I think I recall stating something like step up efforts to move on Revis....that being said when you have a "ton of picks" it puts you in a position to package a few without surrendering your draft
