Zero confidence in Dobbs. He did very little on D before he got hurt.

Fleming and Kilgore ?
It's hard to have any confidence with Fleming, as he hasn't even seen the field yet.
Fleming/Johnson and Looney/Kilgore
I haven't heard anything bout Looney being a C. I think he's the backup at the G spot this year.
Looney was working at center in practice last year, IIRC

Good call...
IDK . . . is he going to be a TE or a DE?

not gonna happen
Yeah, I'd like to see Kilgore or Looney step-up and make Goodwin expendable, I don't see us shaking up the OL just yet. OL will be up for a change next offseason as both Anthony Davis and Iupati will be needing contract extensions. Goodwin can take a hike then.
I agree. I don't see them ripping apart the offensive line just to save money when it doesn't appear that we have someone just as good as Goodwin waiting to play. They need to groom someone and then let Goodwin split.

Looney has been grooming for a year now. He said after the SB he had been practicing mostly at C, and Kilgore mostly at the G positions. Kilgore is a hothead - something not wanted or needed at C. I stand by my word. Looney comes out of TC starting at C.

I'm a little concerned that he got no snaps last year. That seems like a lot of pressure to dump on a raw center, but the coaches know him better than I do. You have to possess some impressive confidence to go out in public with that hair, I guess.

You're thinking Tukuafu. Dobbs was the DE Aldon was tearing it off of when playing in pre season. Then, of course, we rarely used him in the regular season and when we did, he got injured for the year and RJF was next man up. He "may" be an untapped talent. We shall see...

With our losses at QB (Smith), NT (Sopoaga), S (Goldson), DE (Jean-Francois), TE (Walker), K (Akers), WR (Moss), and others, who are the guys that need to step up the most? Obviously, A.J. Jenkins as a 1st rounder needs to show something, but he may not be as vital as some other pieces.
G/C - Kilgore
NT - Williams
DE - Tukuafu
QB - Tolzien
WR - Jenkins
G - Looney
OLB - Fleming
S - Robinson
OLB - Johnson
WR - Lockette
...
Personally, I think Ian Williams' contract speaks volumes. It reminds me of the RJF contract, and I think that will be his role (a backup to all three positions on the D-line). I'm sure we'll invest heavily in D-lineman in the draft, but that contract is telling. With Goldson leaving, S become a glaring need. Spillman doesn't strike me as a starter, so we either need Robinson to shine and/or we need high draft pick. Also, I think Haralson will get cut so Fleming/Johnson will need to step up. If a guy slides in the draft, we can always use another pass rusher, but D-line and Safety are more pressing. And we should expect to sign a FA kicker or draft one in the 5+ round.

If possible, i would like to keep both. Goodwin has been a serviceable center for two years and I want him to play out his contract this year; therefore, either kilgore or Looney will have enough time to be groomed as the team's center.
I want to keep Haralson because he is a productive linebacker who sets the edges. He may not offer much in the pass rushing department, but he's one heck of a 3rd OLB IMO. And plus, if the team is counting on either Johnson or Flemming to fill that 3rd OLB void, then the team may be in trouble.

I agree that Haralson presents more of a sure thing than Fleming/Johnson, but we don't know his status after the injury. Plus you can never have too many pass rushers. I wouldn't mind drafting another DE/OLB early. We've been lucky that Brooks and Smith have been healthy the last two years, but we can't assume that will happen again.

I believe that 2 of these next 4 guys will make a significant impact next year:
Fleming, Johnson, Kilgore, Williams
Fleming, Johnson, Kilgore, Williams

That's interesting, but there really isn't much to say about any of these dudes til we actually see them in action.
Seriously, though, some of the guys listed are just roster fillers and practice squad fodder. I think the next wave of talent is coming in this draft.
In truth, a lot of our current talent is younger than some of the guys listed.
Ricardo Lockette will be 27 when the season starts. Michael Crabtree will be 25.
Darius Fleming is 23. Aldon Smith is 23.

Big fan of Dobbs. He can play. I hope we stop the TE experiment and just let him concentrate at DE.
