2013 Team Needs - Updates

^^ You are right NC...there will be some very difficult decisions. But many have likely been made and some will resolve themselves through injury or just a numbers game.

Second Tier FB/Third Tier TE--say we have 4 TEs who are better than the 4th WR...we aren't likely to keep all the TEs over the 5th and 6th WR unless they can fill the WR or FB back up spot. VD is able to do that but few TEs can. Will they keep Celek and Gray? I think if one of these guys can fill in at FB they may both be on the team but that's a big if.

OLB Resolved: Cam Johnson made Haralson expendable. But will they keep 4 or 5?

Top Tier T: This is agonizing for me! They seem to have solidified the inside but left the T spot in limbo. Snyder? Just don't know if he has enough left but he is versatile enough. Very disappointing that none of the young guys have forced the issue by developing. Looney will likely make the team but he hasn't really blossomed. Much more difficult with the lines they have now, with so much technique being required. Seems few guys can play multiple spots adequately. The 9ers of the 80's seemed to be able to find guys and mix/match them by cross training. I was hoping Looney could be that type of OLman.

STs: It seems to me that Harbaugh may have promised the STs coach that they will keep some guys specifically for this area. If this is true, then guys like Moody and Skuta may force even more cuts. I just know some of them will be very disappointing to me!

J'Marcus Webb is a solid backup that the 49ers should give a look.

I'm not familiar with him but that is a CLEAR need, no question. The last thing we need is a Staley injury and Snyder being a sift on CK's blind side.
J'Marcus Webb.

J'Marcus Webb is available? I'm assuming he would be better than the prospect of Snyder at tackle, God forbid. We know Boone can play tackle, but I'd rather find a guy that can just come in and be a true swing tackle. If we can pick up a solid one of the waiver wire after the roster cuts today, I think we go with Staley, Iupati, Goodwin, Boone, Davis, Kilgore, Snyder, and a veteran tackle as our lineman. Looney would be cut and considering the limited action he saw last season, shouldn't he have practice squad eligibility?
i thought snyder was brought in as a G. If he was brought in as a tackle, this team EPICALLY failed.

How about trading one of our 7th rounders for a veteran tackle?
I don't know the Bears have a bad OL and if he couldn't hack it there not sure we want him.

Anyways, I have updated needs for next year's draft as CB, SS (if Whitner's gone), WR. Then we need OL depth, DE Depth and a 3rd QB. I could see us drafting or even trading for a G/T or C/G versatile guy. Also, hopefully Kilgore is ready to take over at C. He's quick enough but he could definitely get stronger. If he isn't ready and we don't want to spend money on Goodwin then it's definitely a need an early need.

This seems like a good list. I'm hoping the young WRs step up and make this a non-need, but I'm always an optimist!

I may be in the minority but I think this team needs a FS. I don't think Reid is a true FS, but that's to be determined and I AM PRAYING that I'm wrong. Also, Kilgore didn't impress me in pre season, so i think a C may need to be addressed in the draft early.

But for this season, I would like to see them upgrading the DL, safties, and tackles. I think everywhere else is solid.

Well even if they do Boldin, Mannigham, Williams, Moore, Hawkins (if he makes it) are all FAs after this year. Can't count on all those guys to be back with us trying to save money. Leaves Crabtree, Patton and Boldin under contract.

And with CB even if they do well Brown, Asomugha, Cox, Brock, Wright are all free agents so leaves Culliver and Rogers under contract.

Kyle Bonagura ‏@KyleBonagura

The #49ers will sign former Stanford FB Owen Marecic (just released by Browns), per league source. A Harbaugh favorite from the Farm.

I THINK Williams has one more year left on his deal. He may be a RFA after this year or he may have signed a 4 yr deal in 2011.

From what I read Browns fans were really really happy to get rid of him. Don't see the point when we have Miller. He'd just be backup FB and maybe ST guy?

So we'll have 2 fullbacks on the roster? So that means we're having 4 rb's in gore, james, hunter, and dixon-if he makes it.

What do their fans know about good football players?
