Why didn't Joe Thomas work in San Francisco?

My only recollection of his failures without googling was trading a handful of high draft picks for O.J. Simpson, to trade anything for a 30 year old running back is plain stupid.

and then he either traded or released all of the good vets like cedrick hardman, gene washington. jimmy johnson retired and there was zero vet leadership god that makes me so mad. we went from 8-6 with a bright future under monte to what came after that for a few years

True, but he also said he wouldn't have come o San Francisco so long as Joe Thomas was there. Bill saw Thomas' approach (the tossing of old memorabilia) as despicable.
