Exactly!! How the hell can you come to that conclusion? He's NEVER been given that chance with us to do it.
I know he has never had the opportunity and I'm all for him getting the chance, but from what I've seen he is a chance of pace back who doesn't run between the tackles a lot. For all I know he is the next Barry Sanders lol, but if the team thought he was I doubt they spend two high draft picks on the RB position in the past 3 years along with drafting Lattimore who is a 1st rd talent if not injured.

Yeah Bowman wrecked his knee! We don't know how long it will take for him to come back and play like the beast he is. So they grabbed the Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year. Hunter isn't a 20 carries a game player and wouldn't last the whole season.
how do you know?
Yeah it baffles me hearing people say this like they know it as fact. He was an every down back in college and averaged more than 20 carries/game both college years when he was the bell cow from start to season end. Hunter is just as big as a lot of other starting backs in the league.
He was hurt in most of 2009 because he was the lead back
he injured his ankle in the second game of the '09 season. had nothing to do with him being the lead back or not.

2008 and 2010, he was the lead back too. didn't miss a game and averaged 6.4 and 5.7 in those years.

Hunter can carry the load. He is stronger than you think.
He is only a little short, which can be helpful for a RB.
He is a stout player, though, and pretty quick.
He may not have that extra gear that some speed backs do, but he has a gear more than Frank, and Frank has known much success.
Hunter has a pretty good combination of quickness, strength, and of course, blocking ability.
I expect Hunter's role to increase. But, we will see how that plays out with Lattimore and Hyde waiting in the wings.
LMJ, too, brings something to the table... I just don't like that whiny little dude.

Hahaha I'm getting tons of hate on this subject
I never said I didn't like Hunter, but in my opinion I don't see him as a 3 down back and if SF did they wouldn't have spent high picks on Hyde/LMJ and investing time in Lattimore. I hope they resign him and would love to see Hunter, Hyde, and Lattimore running in 2015, but SF has some serious cap issues in 2015 and can't resign everyone. What do you think it would cost to keep him on the team? Maybe he would want to get more money and snaps on another team? Does it make financial sense to sign him while we have 3 RBs that are playing on cheap rookie deals? Would signing him cost us resigning Crab, Iupati or extending Boone,Davis or Culliver?

what did we invest in Latt? nothing but one of our many many picks. look Latt and Hyde are unproven at the pro level and LMJ is soft. it's impossible to say what our situation will look like in '15.

We invested time and a 4th rd pick and yes they are unproven, from watching Hyde in college he has it all runs hard, catches passes out of the back field, pass blocked well and ran for over 1,500 yds in the Big 10 in 11 games last year. Hunter hasn't proven he's is a full time starter yet either, granted he hasn't been given the opportunity, but neither has LMJ. You never answered my questions above. What is he worth? and does it make financial sense to resign him?
It's all talk right now and this season will judge what we do at the RB position...I mean do we even offer Gore a 1 yr deal or let him walk? These are good problems to have.

We'll know what the team will do at the position after the upcoming season. It should be apparent if the team needs to re-sign Hunter or let him test FA.

Gore blew out his knee twice in college as lead back. Not sure why any of that's relevant.

Hunter is a smaller RB and wouldn't you believe he would be more susceptible to being injured if he was given 20 touches a game and had to run between the tackles and not every RB is like Gore... I mean it's common sense, am I taking crazy here??
