Cundiff is probably the only viable alternative.

After that first miss today, I wouldve pulled Akers out and let Cundiff play. Nothing wrong with 2 active kickers in a game.
I agree. If I was Harbaugh, I would re-sign Cundiff ASAP. It's beyond obvious that Akers isn't 100% after tweaking his hernia again after the surgery. No excuses for missing a 38 yder indoors no less. I would re-sign Cundiff and start him over Akers as early as tomorrow. Last thing we can afford is miss FG's in the SB.

Our team was able to survive yet another missed FG, but can we do so in the SB? Can we afford to live with this weakness any longer?
Short answer: NO.
David Akers was the best kicker in the NFL last season.
David Akers is the worst kicker in the NFL this season.
These are simply the cold, hard facts and we simply have no reason to trust in this guy any longer,
If the game today had come down to the 49ers having to make a game-winning kick, would you trust Akers to make it?
If the answer isn't "Yes" then there's no reason for this guy to be kicking for us and certainly not in the biggest game of the year,
Akers has gotta go.

It's too late to sign someone. You just can't bring someone off the street this late and expect them to kick in the biggest game. Akers needs hypnosis and needs to get his head on straight.
