An idiot on ESPN's First Take said Alex Smith looked better last year than this year.

So its not like anyone who has been watching is still waiting for Alex to step up against a contender, i know you just came over from the GB forums this year, and i mean that in no bad way, but Alex led some wins against top playoff teams last year. It might not always be pretty but since the start of last season, Alex's team has the most wins of any starting QB to have played the same span.
It matters not. Alex Smith was labeled a "game manager" last year, even though he had games where he led from the front. This year is his opportunity to shed that label and become the team LEADER. He can do that by showcasing his progression in the WCO. I wanna see the Niners win BECAUSE of him, not in spite of him. He's done a good job against some opponents this year, but based on records --- they're all noncontenders (except MIN). Lets see him go up against a real team.
No, the 8-7 Giants that barely made the playoffs last year then went on to beat the best 2 teams in NFC on the road en route to win their 2nd Superbowl in 5 years

Last year means nothing to this season. Like a broken record already last year the same was said all year and they couldnt beat NO and Alex cant compete yet he went TD for TD with both QBs. And took a botched play to beat the 49ers not to mention the horrible call that should have been fumble BUT last year. New season new era and new hope.

We've been bragging about knocking out playoff teams like GB and DET (although IMO we set the tempo for GB's disastrous turnaround this year), but it seems like we've been beating up on a lot of "not so good" teams. Alex has played great in some of those games; average in others.
This week we play a real bonified contender. Im not worried about our defense showing up, but if Alex goes out and lights up the Giants, he's gonna get a lot of attention this week. If he goes out and puts up the same numbers / same types of game as he did against MIN and NYJ, then everyone will conclude that this team is no different than last year's. Defense leads, Alex serves as nothing more than a game manager.
I hope Alex rips the Giants this week.
They lost to the cowboys and eagles and beat the buc's, panthers, and browns. Yeah they some real contenders alright.

They were 8-7 last year before they beat Dallas --- then went on the road @ GB and @ SF for playoff wins, and then won the SB. Yeah they some real contenders.

No shot. Alex looks like he is in total control of the offense, almost like he was his last year at Utah in 2004. Complete maestro of the offense like Brady is with his

Not that I'm taking their side but they have to monitor all 32 teams, and it's hard to critically analyze all the teams. Could we say that Blaine Gabbert progressed or regressed from last year?

Hes looked good for the most part. But the game vs the Jets I thought he looked like crap. Hes up and down in my opinion.

Alex and the offense are better than last year.... I know that because we haven't seen as much of David Akers kicking field goals.

I guess two years of outstanding play would almost qualify him for semi elite status

Haha, a lot of this for me.
I avoid that show like the plague.
Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith are just obnoxious.
All hot air and no substance.
