BTW, any thoughts on how the modern 49ers are a hybrid of the old Chicago Bears/modern Baltimore Ravens with Singletary/Harbaugh, and the Mike Nolan Ravens tie in? (not to mention the Harbaugh brother connection)
I wonder how Bears fans feel about it. Imagine a Steve Young & Ronnie Lott coached team elsewhere in the league.

This was my favorite Singletary moment...
Singletary brought up a funny story when Crabtree visited Santa Clara recently. Singletary asked what his hobbies might be. Crabtree said he loved clothes and fashion.
"I said, wait a minute nowfashion?" Singletary related. "Clothes, I could see the connection between him and Deion."
But Singletary said Crabtree spoke seriously about fashion and Singletary was convinced it was something productive.

That year the team lost most of there games buy four points or less so he can't take all the blame

Then Harbaugh comes in, with almost all of the same guys, and turns them into a 13-3 team with a trip to the NFCCG.....

And I am pretty sure Bowman started under Harbaugh.

To be honest, I think Nolan deserves more credit for this current team then Sing. The stout 3-4 that we have right now was originally installed by Nolan, and you can tell that the NFL respects him as a D coordinator. In fact, Im of the opinion that we have had a top 5 D for many years, just our offense never gave them enough support. (3 and outs all day)
Sing was probably the worst coach in NFL history. There is no way you can be successful at that level without having SOME coordinator experience, and then hiring a O coordinator with a losing record was a recipe for disaster

I think he's the perfect fit to be the assistant head coach. He shouldn't be left with HC duties however, installing game plans and scouting are not his strength.

yup, BM(bigMike..or bowel movement mike, if you prefer), could really coach up LBs. He somehow got vernon out of the "me,me, me" thing, and made him realize there were 21 other guys out there, also on the team. And vernon has turned into a spectacular player, one of the elite TEs in the league. And then there was .....
unnnhhh...give me a moment here....BM helped...unnhhh...nope, i guess that's it.
When you have a guy who doesn't get the x's and o's, has no idea what O football is all about, sure doesn't understand QBing, RBs, WRs, DBs, OLs, DLs, TEs....well, you get the sad performance that BigMike brought to the 9ers. He was a guy just marking time, awaiting a Jim Harbaugh type arrival. BM is truly best at one thing....coaching LBs. As an asst HC, or anything else, he is in way over his head. As for talent picking, he wanted same guy I did, Carriker. Shows how smart I am. I wasn't against P 52, just thot carriker was better fit. WRONG. BM thot the same thing. Ultimately I believe he came to believe p52 was a superior talent, and coached him well. But THAT was ALL BM brot to the 9ers. Nada mas. He was worse than noln, and erickson stank so badly i have no idea how he compared to BM. Sufficeith (sp?) it to say that once mooch left we were cursed with one horrible coach after another, each one seemingly worse than the previous one. BM just happens to be part of the regretable time in 49er history. BM understood and could coach one thing and one thing only...LBs....and that was his sole contribution, other than making vernon "grow up.
As a corollary, the front office was going thru change and once Denise's husband was kicked out of FO and Jed promoted, things got slowly better. Then Providence stepped in, and one of the best college coaches in recent yrs appears in Jed's backyard. I often wondered, what would have happened if Harbaugh had been coaching Vermont State U? I suspect he would have been gobbled up by someone else in his backyard. So our success was in part, due to an extremely huge piece of luck...we got our HC savior the same way the Montana teams got theirs...we promoted Stanford's HC to the 49ers. BM did nothing but mark time while here, awaiting a great coach, which was conveniently dumped in Jed's lap. Amazing.

Grown men change themselves. Not giving Sing credit for anything.
He sucked in every way possible. Pulling his pants down to make a point, give me a f.. king break.
Nolan deserves credit. Sing, not a chance.

Give credit where credit is due.

I may be wrong, but wasn't that just last year after Singletary was gone?

I agree because those games were all very close to being Ws instead of Ls. If we won the Falcons game 2 years ago it could have turned our season around and maybe never have been this good so was a blessing in disguise. Mike is a good motivator and players coach as an assistant not a head coach.

The way I look at it, Singletary instilled a philosophy of personal accountability and toughness with a lot of these players. He provided a foundation of ethic. In that regard, he was like a college professor - teaching you to think on a theoretical perspective but not necessarily preparing you for the real world. Harbaugh is like grad school - he benefits from the fact that the players he inherited already had the proper philosophy instilled in them but then teaches them how to apply that to the real world.
