I say we don't need a #3 QB.

before this game I would have chose tolzien hands down.
But he hasn't scored us any points for the most parts.
Johnson has, and showed tremendous accuracy tonight.
I'm going with Johnson now, although tolzien has more potential to be a starter one day.

i thought tolzien was winning throughout preseason but johnson looked great tonight. he was right on the money with his accuracy and his ability to scramble is very dangerous. i think it makes sense to keep him because harbaugh picked kaep and kept smith for their athletic ability, it makes sense to have backups that share those characteristics with the starter and backups so there isnt that much of a change in style if he ever has to play

To me, Tolzien is a bit steadier than Johnson is. He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that's going to throw 5 picks in one game. But on the flip side, Johnson is more explosive as a QB. He's more likely to throw/run for 5 TDs in one game.
It's a tough call, and the odds of either guy even seeing the field is very small. My honest opinion is that the #3 guy should be the one who contributes most behind the scenes--in team meetings, scout team, with the clipboard, etc. etc.
