My son's favorite player...he and Gore! We love these blue-collar players who do all the dirty work. The dude is an athletic freak and just gets better and better each year.

There is not a single player on this defense who is not at least a solid player. Soap is one of them; dude gets the job done and top of that does it pretty well, without putting up the big numbers. Without him, who knows how good our defense is last year. Probably still very good, but maybe not at the elite level. Who knows?
Glad to have a defense filled with talent and not just talent without results. These guys work their butts off and it shows on Sundays. Cannot wait for Green Bay...

I'm a big fan.
He had the most reps at the combine but would have obliterated the record -- he thought it was all that was needed (35 reps IIRC -- don't bash me I'm going off memory) -- He probably could have done 50
He could dunk a basketball as 330 pound rookie
He struggled a little as a 2 gap NT as a rookie
So, they moved him to DE, where he excelled (in the 3-4) as a run stuffer (Haka dancer)
The bring in Franklin, a 1 gap NT, who (despite being a backup on the Ravens) excels to the point where there is discussion of long term 5 year mega contracts
Paraag smartly knows this guy is, at most, a franchise 1 year wonder, (franchise tag) especially since Franklin plays like crap at the beginning of his second year as a starter
Franklin plays chicken, calls the 49ers bluff
They let him walk, move Ice to where he belongs (1 gap NT)
Ice has a great year, even gets to play on offense
If I'm missing something, please feel free to expand

He certainly has improved every year. Last year he was excellent. I feel we'll resign him at a fair deal.

Gonna be very interesting to see what happens with Sopo and RJF. Both, very liked. Both, very happy being 49ers. Both, probably good solid starters. Both, expired contracts going into 2013.

Nice job...very underappreciated player (then again, unless your name is Wilfork, the NT position never gets the props it should). But I love Sopaoaga...seeing him toss 50 yard passes like nothing, running WR routes, etc. The guy is an absolute FREAK of an athlete and gets better every year. I'd expect him to be even better this year, year 2 under Fangio and working in tandem with Smith's/McDonald/Brooks. In reality, the 3-4 starts and ends with the NT position and we as Niner fans saw that 1st hand until Franklin was switched a one-gap NT.

When I saw him throw a pass from the back of the endzone to midfield prior to the Giants game in week 10(?) and then run a pattern like a WR and catch the ball in stride and keep running, mind you he's 330-340.........

we need to lock him with an extension before he even sniffs the open market. after losing josh morgan to the market, im scared of losing any player to some overpaying team no matter how much they say they love this organization.

^^This, the 3-4 defense lives and dies at the NT, and he's been excelling at that for sure so make him a niner for life and thats that IMO.....
