lol you guys really think the Yorks will pay this kinda money.

Of course...we can easily afford that now. That's basically, $16.8M APY. While insanely high, we're in great shape to take a hit like that and still have money left over for Boone and anyone else we need to extend (we'll have $34M just to start and probably another $10-12M cap increase overall, again). You know it'll be 5 years most likely, a decent upfront guarantee, lots of incentives and a whole lot of clauses to get out of it just in case.

I'm sure you said the same thing about CK's contract too, huh?

Yes.

So the Yorks keep their salary bill way under the salary cap? Erm, no actually. So on that basis, it is just a question of how the cap money is distributed, ie who gets what.

Unfortunately there are still posters here with no factual support trying to pretend the Yorks are running a low budget operation.

And some of you dudes were trying to say an OLB wouldn't be paid big dollars like a defensive lineman. This is the second largest contract for a defensive player in the league. Von Miller is likely gonna get an even bigger contract, and Aldon will be right there if he has a good season.

Pass rushers get the big bucks. Whether they play at OLB or DE. Baalke held back on extending Smith to find out if he had matured and was going to maintain his standards.
Aldon's gonna get $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Yeah, it would be cool to highlight the APY for OLB's (not just the entire total # as we all know that's usually B.S. anyhow). What was the largest paid prior to this? $60-70M. But how was it structured? $13M a year? While this contract is $16.8M APY, the cap hit will probably be closer to $13-14M.

We were saying the trend stated that they didn't, which was true. Will be interesting to see if the niners will pay aldon around this much. wouldn't be to disappointed with it though, with the salary cap rising it wouldnt be too bad.

You can't really go off the deals OLB have been getting the last 5 years when evaluating these new guys. The largest prior OLB contract was Clay Matthews and around $13mil. APY. His BEST season was 13.5 sacks. Aldon, Houston, and Miller are on a completely different level than any other rush OLB that has been in the league in a long time. Other than Demarcus Ware, off the top of my head I can't think of a LB as disruptive as these 3 since LT.

Very true. I think, like with CK's deal, we'll need to have AB break down the contract for us to help give us a better idea of how this may affect Aldon's contract here...even with Paraag's wizardry. And that's assuming the absolute max...meaning he has a huge year for us, obviously is clean, has matured greatly, etc. Houston has been very consistent in his performance over three years. Aldon, d/t his own decisions, has not (19.5 sacks down to 2 last year). Plus, now we're going to see how effective he will be w/o Justin up front. But this contract certainly helps set the parameters and new precedence going forward for "arrow up" OLB pass rushers in their primes . We'll be able to afford it no matter what and I think that is the important take-away here. We can all thank the big contract retirements of Justin, Willis, Davis, Borland, etc. and our FO not overspending for Culliver, Cox, Skuta, etc.

Yup those 3 are the best and I believe aldon is the best overall. I just hope we pay him clay Matthews type money. That would be a bargain
What if aldon has a bad year but wants more than Justin Houston money?
