NOTHING has changed.

Adam is reporting something that the 49ers have been saying since day one...Aldon won't be back till they think he's ready to come back.

If he comes out of rehab and immediately relapses...he ain't playing this year. If he comes out of rehab (usually 28 days) and does well, they'll likely give him a few weeks to get ready and he'll return after the bye.

The point is that nobody knows 100% when he'll be back. If he does well in rehab as has thus far been reported he'll be back after the bye.

It doesn't do them nor Aldon any good to leave him to his own devices all season. Thats just more opportunity to be on his own and relapse. They will want him in the locker room and around the team. If he's going to be there then there is no reason not to play him if he's taking the necessary steps.

Effectively, they are telling Aldon it isn't a forgone conclusion he plays. He has to earn it. He likely will and...again...be back after the bye.

No. He said, they are not counting on having him back. I think there is a difference between the two. Not to mention it's the PC thing for the FO to say at this point. I wouldn't read too much into that tweet.

exactly. saying they expect them back makes it look like theyre more interested in the player returning than his healthy rehab. he'll be back, rehab shouldnt take more than a month and goodell wont suspend him until the legal process has taken its course

Aldon Smith's impact on this defense is immense. Its painfully obvious with every game that he misses. Our pass rush is so manufactured now especially with Ray Mac hurting. Justin Smith is the only player consistently making individual plays and he's always getting extra attention. Thank goodness for #94!

should be pretty obvious, he gets like half of our sacks last season and into this year it was the same story.
