No shot at Smith but it seems like we are building for Kaepernick

So let me get this straight? We added quality football players so it automatically means we building for Kaepernick? What are you smoking? There is absolutely nothing to correlate this assumption of yours.

When we drafted Kaepernick he signed a 4 year contract and Harbaugh clearly conveyed that the "ideal" timeframe for his development is 3 years, so he'd be our starting QB in the final year of his rookie deal, unless we go into his 4th year(1st year starting) by giving him a contract extension which IMHO would be incredibly foolish. Think about that, ideally Kaepernick will not see the field until the 2014 season, what we draft in 2014 has little to no bearing on what we will do in 2015. GM's barely even build 4-5 year plans and in a world where the supposed "QB of the future" wont see the field until year 4 of this plan you really cant say that players who might only be on the team for 2 years(until their rookie deals expire) of Kaepernick's supposedly inevitable reign is just plain ignorant.

We are building the best football team possible, it doesnt matter who the QB will be in 3 years, that will matter in 3 years. Quit looking for reasons to connect Kaepernick's "inevitable reign as our starting QB" or Smith's deficiencies to how we are drafting right now. The entire goal is to field the best team possible, not to make draft picks because of our QB when they might not ever play together. It would just be pure coincidence that we draft speed players when we are DEVELOPING a strong armed QB.

I don't see it like that. We added players to put some speed and quickness to this offense, whether the next QB fits more with the offense remains to be seen.

I want Harbaugh to not play favorites as I think kaepernick will beat out Smith this year in training camp and preseason but Harbaugh may choose the experience of Smith. Point is Smith will have to make a huge jump from 16? Touchdowns last year and a crappy third down percentage. This team has everything in place on offense with all the additions in FA and the draft, no more excuses just Go out there and ball. If smith doesn't step up his game every game, he should be replaced. That's the truth.
lol!!!!!!
They wanted Dalton. Kaep was their second choice. At that time we didn't know if Alex was done or not and we needed another QB option. Does it ever cross anyones mind that Kaep was the best available at a position of need which we were desperate to fill? It's not like the team pulled a Dan Snyder to get him and anoint him our savior.
wait so alex and kaep contract ends at the same time?

They actually had Kaep rated as the #5 player in the entire draft last year.

Their board was
1. PP
2. Von Miller
3. Cam
4. Aldon Smith
5. Kaep

See I can make stuff up too.

It's all over the press-conference media rounds in the from last sumer and post 2011 draft. really annoying to find things that old. I thought this was something the whole zone would remember, but yea they are expecting Kaepernick's developmental process to take 2-3 years and ideally have him sit for 3 full years.

yes, now assuming Alex plays out his entire deal we would have both Kaepernick and Smith in free agency at the same time.
He not the future either Alex becomes one of the elite this year an we win the super bowl the niners will draft Matt Barkley with three extra picks we will have to Plenty to go up and get personally I think we will win this year either stockpiling picks like that will allow us to get and elite talent in next years draft.

The guy with the accurate big arm is Kaep not Smith!

your thoughts?

Kaepernick is the QB of the future. They didn't MOVE UP to draft him just so they could stick with Alex forever. When he is ready, he will take over. Anyone who doesn't see that is fooling themselves.
And where has Kap shown he is the future? Putting up average numbers in preseason against guys who are now out of the league? His five regular season passes? There is no way practice can simulate full speed game situations for a quarterback. No one knows what Kap is until he gets a lot of real game experience.

Kaepernick is not a lock for anything. He may not even beat out Josh Johnson.

I hope he is the future, but we haven't seen anything yet.

Alex Smith may continue to develop and get better he's still young.

Even Tolzien looked better than Kaepernick in the preseason but holy moly it's going to be a gunslinger battle in Camp and in the offseason.

You gotta love the depth of the QB situation that we have and all of the roster spots. HELL WE EVEN HAVE A LONGSNAPPER MINICAMP BATTLE!
If memory serves, the odds of a first round QB pick panning out as a multi-year starter is something like 30-40 percent, so it seems rather silly to me to pronounce Kaep is the qb of the future.

Moreover, what's the point of doing so?
alex smith : drew bledsoe
colin kaepernick : tom brady

The best part about this argument is that it doesn't matter at all. If Harbaugh has proven anything its he will play the best player to help him win. If/when Kaep shows in practice he is ready to unseat Alex he will play. It may never come or it may come a lot sooner then you expect.

And back to the original point. All qbs need weapons and speed around them.

This guy wins /thread

The ultimate goal is to field the best possible team, for the foreseeable future the best QB on our roster is Smith. In the event our best QB changes to Johnson, Kaepernick, or even Tolzien - Harbaugh will make the change, to guess what, field the best possible team....
