Fine call me a hater but justify KW taking up a roster spot if we use a 1st round pick on a WR.

U mad at Kyle?

Watch Out NFC West Niners Are COMING!!

Agree, great write up and think you hit most spots right on.

and that is the beauty of training camp, the practice squad, and the 53 man roster deadline....time will tell...if we draft a strong wr and he is in fact better than KW then KW can fly a kite but if he grows and gets better then im all for him.
Great evaluation Karma. Lets see what happens during the draft.

I really Grant and Dobbs, hope we hold on to them.

Personally, would love to see a RB picked up in the draft to compete with A. Dixon.

He's a guttersnipe.

Great read Karma... It is clear you really did your homework on this....well done.

One thing I noticed in your summary is that you didn't include the need for more depth on the D-line when in your positional write-ups you did. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not but I would actually put it in third on your priority list...

Personally, I think this area of need must be addressed this off-season with J Smith turning 33 this year and R McDonald's history of nagging injuries. Both are amazing when healthy but assuming they can play virtually every snap next season like they did this year would be dangerous. In fact, given the importance of maintaining that position as a team strength, I think the team should spend one of their first 2 picks on a DLman. This draft is a deep one for D-linemen as well so they need to take advantage of that.

Again, I really enjoyed reading your post...particularly your takes on the guys in the secondary. Learning....always good. Keep up the fine work.

Cheers!

Thank you for the compliment!

You are absolutely right. Leaving off the need for a Defensive Lineman was an oversight. I changed it and put it right where you thought it should go. I agree wholeheartedly that it is a top 3 priority. Thanks for the heads up!

Kyle Williams is gone. It will likely be due to the drafting of a WR with high draft pick taking that last WR roster spot. (To be honest the rookie will probably be ahead of Ginn on the depth chart). Using a high draft pick is necessary at this point because we're not going to overpay Mike Wallace (or any other pro-bowl caliber WR FA) now or next offseason and none of our current WRs are signed long term.

I'm in the camp that just doesn't want KW on the team because of what happened in the championship game. I'm sure that other on the team feel the same way. Him being on the roster just keeps the stink of that loss on the team and it needs to be cleansed. He's not going to get cut until training camp but people will perceive it as being because of the fumbles. However despite what I and a lot of other fans think it's just simply because of the signings and a likely high draft pick at WR. In this way Coach won't be seen as contradicting his "Team.Team.Team." philosophy.

I disagree. Our emotions are still running high from that painful loss but the truth is that before that game Kyle Williams was a fan favorite because of his increasingly improving play. I believe he will be given every chance to prove himself as a receiver but it will be awhile, if ever, before he is asked to return punts.

Now, if the team drafts a 1st or second round WR, that might mean that he gets bumped but I believe that the need for a RB, OG, DL, and OLB will mean that we don't address WR until later in the draft. Of course, Baalke will take the BPA when we are on the clock so WR might be the best value. However, as it stands Williams has a good shot at the roster and we are going to have to figure out how to forgive the kid. He has better days ahead of him and I would hate to see the team lose his talent. He has a unique skill set on the team. He is a shifty, quick slot type that can break a short pass. He also has the body control and hands to make the tough catch. Squash the bias!

Summary: If you read this far I appreciate your patronage. Here is a summation of needs ranked by my priority:

RB - The team would be wise to find a guy early to start grooming to replace Gore.
OG/C - Right Guard is the biggest hole on the team and Goodwin's replacement needs to be identified sooner rather than later.
DL - Justin Smith isn't getting any younger and the drop off to the second string might be the biggest of any unit.
OLB - Great starters but zero depth.
TE - The depth and talent on the team is good right now but another playmaker to go with Davis would be huge. Can Walker be that guy?
ILB - This becomes a need if Grant leaves.
WR (Return Specialist?) - Ginn's return makes this a lower priority but more options would always be a good thing.
FS - Spillman has little experience as the back-up.

Any feedback would be most appreciated! I hope you enjoyed it!

Great job Karma--I would put RG ahead of RB and there are a couple of players I might switch but you have presented a very clear team picture. I have less confidence in Person and am very worried about the line back up, aside from RG.

WR is one of those positions where a great deal of instability can erode quality. Moss may not make it, leaving a big hole. An injury or two and you wind up with Swain playing in the playoffs! KW needs competition so having five or six really good WRs going into camp should not be seen as a problem.

DBs--can't believe that they were able to keep the DBs so solid! Great work by the FO.
Nice job man!!

I like Kendall filing that spot once Gore is gone.

Thanks for the feedback. I can see your argument because RG is the more pressing need. I chose to put RB ahead of it since we are a power running team with only one real power threat in Gore. Kendall Hunter is a heck of a player but I see him more as a change of pace, passing game guy. He just doesn't have the every-down-back body. I could be wrong.

Kilgore is highly thought of and servicable veteran guards are usually easier to find than RBs (generally speaking).

I agree with you about the WRs. The more competition, the better!

I like Kendall as a player but I just don't think he can be the power back this offense needs. He is electric when he gets some space, but he just doesn't have the size to pound it up the middle. I could be wrong but I'd like to see another young back with more size and some speed.

Looks like the 49ers are hosting David Wilson. It looks like they might address that RB need!
I'm not buying into Randy Moss a lock. Still very early. Impressive workout sure. But hope he put in the work in camp. I don't want Moss to be a has been vet receiver that gets cut after camp. There were a few of those before.
