Always loved Russ Francis. He was like John Oates in pads.

Just in case no one saw it yet, Russ Francis got in touch with Dan Brown to respond to Manley's accusations. It's a great read.

What a douche. Slandering the name of a dead man to try and make a point. Glad to see Russ Francis calling him out and setting the record straight. Manly shot his mouth off 30 years ago and Francis made him pay. Now he just did it again.

It's no surprise that this accusation came from a defensive player. Which is strange for younger fans that wasn't from the 80's , because bounties are usually from the defensive side. But back in the 80's our offense was deemed by the league's defenses as 'finesse'. So imagine their surprise when they got owned physically by our offense. And usually their best defensive player was targeted. Dexter Manley, Mike Singletary, Lawrence Taylor, and others were all targeted to let them know they can't intimidate our offensive players. Tom Rathman embodied this attitude. Just because they are offensive players don't mean that they can't deliver a hit.
Walsh would design a play not necessarily just to gain yardage. Sometimes it's designed to knock the other team's best defensive player on his ass. So in a sense there was a bounty.
This is what Dexter Manley is really crying about as of late.
This is exactly how Walsh would have handled such situations. He would have done it the legal, more intelligent way.

It never happened. We were too classy to run that kind of program. And walsh hated penalties so that he wouldn't go for something like a bounty program. And the guys that we had, we didn't need a bounty program.......Ronnie Lott knocked guys out of the game on CLEAN hits.
It wouldn't surprise me if the silver and black across the bay ran something like that because they used to fight, intimidate guys, cheapshot punters......I bet they paid any fines that the players incurred for that kind of stuff.

Walsh handled it like a boss. he drew up some legal/clean plays to shut a loud mouth up. idk if manley ever got another chance to play the niners but i bet he kept his mouth shut.

Dexter Womanly - almost a completely forgotten player whose only way at getting noticed is to bad-mouth a great coach and person who isn't there to defend himself.
Dexter get a life! oH, i FORGOT, YOU NEVER HAD ONE.

See what happens when you open your mouth like Dexter did. Spouting off what he was going to do to Joe and now Bill Walsh. Hahahaha he got owned twice by Russ.
Niners have had a history of Pro Bowl or near pro bowl TE's:Ted Kwalick, Charlie Young, Russ Francis, John Frank, Brent Jones. Even had Wesley Walls on the team. Now we got Vernon.

In the 50's and 60's defensive players used to try and paralyze people on a regular basis.
I bet Jack Lambert is laughing at this whole thing.
