1 and 10 with around 40 seconds left, Alex dumped the ball off to Gore in the flat and he gained about four yards before being tackled in bounds. With the clock still running Smith had to get everyone in position taking valuable time off the clock so he could spike the ball making it 3rd down. Should Gore have ran out of bounds to save a time out and a down in case the next pass was incomplete?

Yes, that was pretty obvious to everyone but Gore, although Alex should've just thrown that one away.

Time was some what of a factor at that point. But trumping that is they were trying to get as close as they could for a better field goal range by taking what the defense was willing to give up. Which is anything short underneath with the protected sideline. They were not going to give Gore the underneath AND let him get out of bound.

Good thing we won. I can't imagine all of the "should he have" threads if we lost that game.

On replay, I thought about it. Not so much at the time knowing the amount of time on the clock. At that point for them, with one TO and knowing how close they were to FG range, not such an issue. Considering the whole situation, I would say no.

HOW we win or lose games is the entire reason for a message board in the first place.

So you really wanted Drew Brees to have time to score again?

Yep. Frank tried to, but couldn't make it. He's definitely lost a few steps. We should have traded him when we had the chance. He's done. We should start Dixon on Sunday. Thank you for noticing Frank's regression.
