Dream Season

I originally posted this back in June, (Jun 26, 2011 at 14:22:31) to be exact and I had entitled it, Dream Season...

Well, it was lumped in with the "Alex Smith in Free Agency" thread as post #1879...

Here is the link http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/free-agency/154047-alex-smith-free-agency/page126/

I guess that the Mod who slammed it in to another thread didn't feel as if it was worthy of it's own thread...?

I think that it's a good time to dust this off.

Come along with me for a moment, on a magical ride to fantasy land...

where the NFL Gods are smiling down on our beloved 49ers...

and a young man with high expectations finally reaches them...

by leading the team who stayed with him to a Super Bowl victory...

with much needed help from a 1st year NFL Head Coach who knows something about developing a successful Quarterback...

Yeah, I know what you are thinking. You probably are questioning my mental capacities or are wondering what I've been smoking right about now. But hey, there's no Free Agency or trades and not much going on for a few months now... so I guess my mind is wandering. But just "float" along with me and dream about an outcome like this...

Due to the crazy offseason with the lockout, the best option for Alex Smith is to return to the 49ers in 2011 and try, one more time, to earn the respect of the Niner Faithful and make good on the promise he once had as the 49ers #1 overall pick.

The future starter for the Niners, Colin Kaepernick, is just not ready to play this year in large part because of the limited time he has spent with the coaches due to the lockout and Alex Smith is named as the starter early in Pre-season.

Under the expert guidance of our new Head Coach, Jim Harbaugh, the 2011 NFL Season is one where Alex Smith becomes one of the elite QBs in the NFL and he leads the 49ers to not only an NFC West Title, or an NFC Championship, but also a Super Bowl win! It is truly a Kurt Warner type of story for Alex Smith in his final season with the 49ers as Jim Harbaugh earns NFL Head Coach of the Year in his 1st season with the 49ers.

Next year, Alex Smith signs a huge free agent deal with the Seattle Seahawks who overpay him and fail to make the playoffs in 2012... while the 49ers are once again NFC West Champs... but lead this time by their 1st year starting QB Colin Kaepernick.

I would like to add that I would rather have Alex come back and be our Starter next season, than see him go to Seattle!

I have gained a belief in him, thanks to Coach Harbaugh, that I have never had before and I am ELATED that he has finally proven himself to be worthy of that #1 pick! The man has showed great character in enduring those 7 seasons with 7 different OCs and he deserves this success.

Let's all hope (and Pray) that this ride doesn't end here!

The "Dream Season" is STILL alive! GO NINERS!!!
huge contradiction. in June, you said Alex would lead us to the Super Bowl and then sign with Seattle?

that makes zero sense.

Did you read the whole post?

I said that back in June because he only has a 1 year deal and was not a sure thing to be back in 2012.

AND I did not really believe in him then... like MOST honest 49ers Fans might admit. I have since changed my mind about Alex... as probably ALL 49ers Fans who were skeptical.

i'm just saying you don't let a QB that brought you an NFL Championship, walk. it doesn't make sense.

and FWIW, i have always been an "Alex lover"

I guess that was my way of putting a comical end to my post... And most Niner Fans, at that point, thought that Alex was just a 1 year "stop-gap" until CK was ready to be our guy. I think most Niner Fans looked at it that way. That was the reason we drafted a QB in Round 2... right? Not to be a back-up to Alex.
The Dream Season is STILL alive!

Let's go Niners!!!
