Reality is we have one side of a story only, everything is assumptions/speculation.
In this article, there is nothing for NT to spin. Billy Davis stated that Chip wanted to bring him on, but Jed/Trent said no. Why does Chip have to reach out and tell Billy, "I wanted you here, but Jed/Trent said 'no'. Does Chip owe something to Billy Davis where Chip has to be careful about hurting Billy's feels? Chip doesn't seem like a guy to be tippy toeing around another man's feelings.
I find the scenario where Jed likes to make football decisions more plausible than Chip calling up Billy just to say, "I want to hire you, but I can't because Jed/Trent". And even if this was true, how smart is it for Jed/Trent to allow Chip to use them as an excuse.
