5. 49ers: The nagging feeling that Alex Smith can't take this team where it wants to go won't go away.

fair enough. This team can do everything but pass the ball

that is a pretty significant aspect of the game

I wouldn't say we can't pass. We're just not consistent on a week-to-week basis. We do rank pretty high in two very important passing categories: yards/attempt and completion %. We rank 8th in both.

NO SIR, WE SUCK!!!!
LOL, I've been playing around with that NFL.com playoff simulator, using the con-current seeds (if the season ended today) in different orders, and after 10 straight simulations it has the 49ers facing the Patriots in the Superbowl! :p -Every NFC Championship in the sim is 49ers @ Falcons (with every AFC being Patriots @ Texans), and in every sim we faced the Giants at one point (in the divisional/wildcard), and defeated them.

5. 49ers: Frank Gore, because without him the offense would sputter.

Pricso at CBS puts us at 5th as well. Someone get than man a pair of panties.
5th seems to be a popular spot. Teams ahead of us just aren't losing. Usually I like Billick but not sure how he can move the Packers ahead of us after that game against the Jags and what we did last night. So he has us 6th but I can see how he thinks the Packers could be dangerous. We can be too.

ESPN has us at 4th ahead of Bears and behind falcons, giants, texans

NFL.com's main power rankings with Elliot Harrison has us 5th, the other 13 or so "experts" rankings are released later.

4th on ESPN
The lower the 49ers are in these power rankings the better they play.

5th is 100% fine with me.

I love frank but our rb depth is not a issue on the team, I feel if frank went down hunter and jacobs could step up
