Pete Prisco at CBS has us at number 3. Ravens move up to 2.
You'll have a few outliers, but I think the general consensus from the national sportswriters is that we were competitive to the end but lost to a very good team that has been outstanding at home. Factor in the short week and yet another long trip to the East coast.
There's a general lack of commentary about the game other than we lost (were due for a loss) to a very good team on the road. No negative trends, no harbingers of doom.
That's the takeaway from this week's power rankings and that's a good thing.

Are you joking, we lose on a short week, across the country, and now all of a sudden we can't beat teams anymore? Get a grip, we are really good at stopping the pass.

I sorta thought the rankings meant that if teams played each other now, who would win.
agree with this

So if the Rams beat the Saints, and the Niners cant beat the Saints, then this Sunday........
Wait, but, the Niners beat the Cardinals, and the Rams couldn't beat the Cardinals...

I won't move the 49ers down too far off a loss to the Ravens going from West Coast to East Coast on a short week. The Steelers matchup at home in Week 15 remains the only real challenge to the 49ers with the rest of their games coming against the inept NFC West. If San Fran wins out vs. the NFC West, a 13-3 record would nail down at least the No. 2 seed in the NFC. It will be interesting to see how coach Jim Harbaugh will keep his team engaged down the stretch.
Brian Billick.
Playoff Chances: 99.9 percent
The San Francisco 49ers can clinch a playoff berth with a win this week. Facing the St. Louis Rams should guarantee the 49ers will be in the playoffs in 2011.
San Francisco makes a small move down this week after losing a tough game to the Baltimore Ravens—nothing to be ashamed of. If you had told anyone before the season that the 49ers would be 9-2 right now, they should have laughed at you. But here we are, and the 49ers look damn good.
Jim Harbaugh's team has to be a little worried about how easy it was for the Ravens to disrupt its entire offense with the pass rush. The scheme needs to be better, as does the execution, if the 49ers are going to make a playoff run.

He gave the Bears all the credit for being the one team who could match up against the Packers... Noting their great defense, great special teams, and dominant run game.

BAL has Suggs. GB has Matthews. GB could be a big problem to our passing game BUT, I don't think they can defend our run the way BAL did.

You have to take away both to do what Balt did.

No frankly our D gets passed on by guys like Vick, dalton, romo imagine what. Bree's and Rogers will do. I'm not sold on our pass D and frankly we can't score enough to keep up with them in my opinion.

Most sites have us at #3, with the Ravens in front of us. -But it's more than likely (given how this league works week to week) we'll be #2 again next week (when the Ravens lose to an opponent they play down to), and we'll be capturing the NFC West crown.
-I'm just f**king glad the Saints aren't ahead of us (cause they can only blow teams out at home, and look like mediocre s**t on the road).
